The E4200 Dual-Band N Router from Linksys provides Wireless-N connections. Utilizing both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands and six internal antennas, the router has excellent signal strength and range. The LAN ports utilize 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, and advanced Quality of Service features ensure that high-bandwidth applications like VoIP and HD streaming video get higher prioritization. The router is backwards compatible with devices using other wireless standards, so upgrading your network to Wireless-N won't disrupt use of your older devices.

I am a Cisco fan, having managed Cisco-based WANS during my working days. Plus, my pre-purchase research satisfied me that the e4200 was the best combination of speed and security. The e4200 replaced a WRT54G that was being strained by new devices. I am happy with the purchase. The auto setup worked perfectly. My Apple Macbook Pro is very happy, humming along at much higher speeds. The IPhone was another issue. Had problems getting it to sync. A little research on the internet revealed others with the same problem. Solution -- choose a single frequency for at least one of the dual bands. I chose channel 6 for the 2.4 GHz band, leaving the 5 GHz band on "auto", leaving max flexibility for the laptop since it is the high volume customer on the home network. Now, all devices, including the printer and PC hard-wired to the router, appear to be satisfied.

The router hasn't really knocked my socks off- it works as a router should, but have thus far I haven't seen any drastic improvements in performance over my existing Linksys router. I really like Linksys equipment, though, and this is a good solid piece of equipment- I like the sleek design and not a gazillion flashing lights. The USB storage device capability is very nice too. The wizard to install it was not my favorite, but it did get me connected and running- then you can download the manual from internet and begin the manual config to tweak. Bottom line you can trust this is a great device. I got a good deal here at B&H [...] Note: I have had mine for only about two weeks so can not judge time dependability yet.

Comments about Linksys E4200 Dual-Band N Router:
I use this router for the 4 computers and HD TV in my house. My house is a two-story structure with basement and rear deck. I can use my laptop everywhere in the house, and even outside on the deck. The set-up is quick and easy. It's also an attractive device, which doesn't hurt. The only negative thing I can say is that it's a bit expensive. Still, it works perfectly, and that's worth a lot.

Comments about Linksys E4200 Dual-Band N Router:
I was apprehensive at first in buying this model owing to its high price. I did an extensive research in finding out the pros and cons of this model. The major advantage of this model is that it is technically superior over the lower-priced e-series Linksys routers. It has more internal antennas than the other e-series (thereby leading to greater coverage and more reliable connection). I also used the freeware inSSIDer to double check the stability of the E4200. So far, the router has been very stable. Compared to my old Dlink-615 router, my indoor room signal has improved from -65 dBm to -52 dBm. If you can afford it, I highly suggest that you get this model.

This replaced a 6 year old WRT54G that was exceptional overall.
It took 2 1/2 hrs for Cisco to set the router up! It worked fine from a wired connection but would not connect to the Internet via WiFi or wireless adapter. Tech Support had to completely reconfigure the internal firmware then start from scratch.
Router does loose connection periodically thorought the day although the only PRO is that the rf transmission is better that the WRT54G but given all the "Cons" not worth the price by any means!

Comments about Linksys E4200 Dual-Band N Router:
I wanted a router that would support my legacy 802.11g wireless print servers but allow my family's laptops to communicate over Wireless-N at 5GHz to eliminate interference from our microwave oven.
The Linksys E4200 is a great-looking, flexible, high-performance, dual-band router that does exactly what I need.
I am extremely pleased with the E4200.

Comments about Linksys E4200 Dual-Band N Router:
I have always used linksys router. prior to the E4200 i was using WRT54L which worked great. there was no need to change but i upgraded as i wanted the N router. before buying the E4200 i bought the ASUS RTN56U. big Mistake ! i never got any consistent speed with it, could not connect my wireless printer, could not connect my external hard drive via FTP. all the so called good reviews for ASUS were no good for me. returned it to B& H and promply bought the E4200. ( B&H) was very prompt with the RA and refund.
setting up the E4200 was a breeze. my HP wirelss printer works seemlessly, great speed of 22 MBPS upload and 4.10 MBPS download, ( tested using speednet.com) my external drive works great on the network. easy to use interface. Also added the AE2500 adaptor to get the 5GHz bandwdith. what a router. linksys u rock!!!!

We bought this router because we got Netflex and the previous router was causing rebuffering. With this router Netflex never rebuffers and the load time seems like 8x faster initially.

Comments about Linksys E4200 Dual-Band N Router:
I'm very happy with the E4200. It's much faster than our previous router (which was admittedly about 10 years old). More importantly, the CD that came with it made the setup very easy. We did have a few problems when I was trying to attach the external hard drive and printer through the USB port, but the Cisco live support (via an Internet chat session) helped me through it.
One note, if you do plan on using the router with an external hard drive, I'd recommend checking that it is compatible with the E4200 (there's a website where you can find a list). There may be similar sites for compatible printers and other equipment.
