Novoflex ASTAT-NEX Tripod Collar for Sony NEX Lens Adapters
The Novoflex ASTAT-NEX Tripod Collar for Sony NEX Lens Adapters fits around a Novoflex lens adapter for Sony NEX cameras, in order to provide support for a heavy lens & adapter as they're attached to a relatively tiny Sony NEX series camera body. Novoflex offers a variety of lens adapters for the mirrorless NEX series cameras, for Pentax, Canon, Leica, T2-mount, and many more lens types.
The tripod collar features both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads for attaching to a tripod head, and the Arca-compatible bottom allows the collar to be clamped securely by most Arca-Swiss-compatible quick-release mechanisms.
The collar features a textured knob for tightening the ring around the lens adapter. To execute quick changes between horizontal and vertical orientation, just loosen the knob and rotate the NEX adapter & camera body – the adapter is able to turn a full 360° within the collar.

This device allows you to mount an adapted lens to the tripod without using the rather weak NEX tripod socket, placing the tripod closer to the center of gravity of the camera+lens. Some cheap adapters have tripod mounts, but they do not rotate, and some are weakly attached with skinny scews. The Novoflex mount rotates to any orientation and fits all their adapters, so if you have more than one adapter, you only need one mount. It can be easily removed when you don't need it, unlike tripod mounts on other adapters. It has an integral Arca-Swiss foot which fits both longitudinal and sideways clamps, so you don't need to buy an A-S plate, saving money and weight. A rotating mount allows you to keep the camera over the center of the tripod without flopping it off to the side for verticals; until I got this gadget, I only had that advantage with some long tele lenses which come with tripod mounts.
I have a couple of Novoflex adapters, and their quality is superb. They fit the NEX camera smoothly with no play, unlike even the Sony lenses, which have some play when mounted on the camera. If you have high-quality lenses like Leica, Zeiss, or pro-grade Nikon, Canon, etc., you really should consider the Novoflex system.

I use this collar with some heavy Nikon glass with a Novoflex adapter. The bias of the foot to one side helps compensate for the natural unbalance with the NEX-7 attached. The handy screw (mounted upside down from the shown image) is perfect and quickly allows position change from horizontal to vertical perspective.
