Comments about Shure SE315 Sound-Isolating In-Ear Stereo Earphones (Black):
Background:
I have been buying SHURE earphones for the past 8-9 years. Yes, they are expensive, but for the most part I feel they have been 100% worth it. The "sound quality" has been superior, but most importantly (and the reason I am willing to pay top dollar for them) is because of the outstanding sound isolation they provide.
I use my SHURE earphones to listen to my ipod at the gym, in airports/airplanes, jogging, at home... basically everywhere that is noisy. The sound isolation is amazing and worth every penny. Since I use them with so much frequency and under such less than oprimal environments I've had to replace a few sets of the past 8 years.
My initial impression of the SE115 earphones is that they are durable, and made to LAST! The engineers at SHURE really put a lot of focus into designing a set of earphones that will survive heavy usage. I was, and still am really impressed with the SE115's rugged construction.
However, I had to return my SHURE SE115 earphones because the sound isolation was sub-par compared to my old set of SHURE E3C earphones. The E3C's are a bit larger than my old set and can't fit into my ear as well. Sound isolation is a real deal-breaker for me. The problem is that the SE115 (because of their design) can't be pushed far enough into the ear canal to allow a proper sound isolation seal. My old SHURE E3C earphones had amazing sound isolation!
Like I said, sound isolation is a real deal-breaker for me. I wish they still made the old E3C.
SUMMARY:
PROs:
Great sound (in quiet environments only)
Very rugged construction
CONs:
Weak sound isolation
Expensive

Comments about Shure SE315 Sound-Isolating In-Ear Stereo Earphones (Black):
I've had these for about a week. I previously owned the E3C Shure earphones which I very unfortunately left on an airplane.
I purchased these thinking they would be a great upgrade but i was very wrong.
Basically, the sound is coming through a 1/64 inch opening that you are supposed to align with your eardrum. To me, despite going through all of the various foam tips & wiggling & sticking these dangerously into my ear, the sound never seems very robust. Always kind of tinny with a trace of an echo. By comparison, Apple's stock earbuds that come with an ipod or iphone, sound so much better.
the packaging for this item is so complicated that you basically have to destroy it, to get the product out. If I could return these I would.
( I've been doing audio production for film & TV for 25 years. )

Comments about Shure SE315 Sound-Isolating In-Ear Stereo Earphones (Black):
I purchased these after having my backpack stolen with my laptop, ipod and all accessorizes including my Shure SE115's. The new 315's are superior in almost every way. Here is my personal opinion of the product:
Pros:
1. Sound isolation is second to none! Especially when you use the black expanding foam ear pieces.
2. Sound quality is extraordinary for earbuds. I have been a musician all my life. As a result I have very high expectations. These earphones have great range and just enough base for me personally. I know others have commented that there is not enough bass, but I am perfectly happy.
3. Durability seems to be very good. Although they are plastic, the feel in hand is of a very sturdy device.
Cons:
1. Cost of the product was on the high side. I purchased them only because I wanted to know what serious money would get me in terms of earbuds. This is only a con because I feel they would be more correctly priced at around $130-160.
2. Comfort of the product is not what I would like. I have tried all the earpieces and found what I think are the most appropriate for my ears. Unlike the old SE115's, I cannot leave these in for more than about 1.5hrs. The flexi wire to wrap around your ear is a good idea, but I am constantly having to adjust them in relation to my glasses earpiece. I hope that these small things work their way out in the next several months.
Conclusion:
These are a great set of earbuds. I would highly recommend them to those who want a step up from what they are currently using, but don't want to shell out several hundred dollars. Hope this helps.
