Comments about Yamaha YHT-595 5.1 Channel Home Theater in a Box System (Black):
My decision to purchase a Yamaha system is based upon prior ownership. My R-9 must be more than 25 years old, maybe 3 technology generations, and it still kicks serious hind.
This is installed in a small family room that opens into the kitchen. There is cabinetry and furniture all around. This is not set up as a typical home theater. The left and right front speakers are placed at the lower corners of the 60 inch screen. The center channel speaker is under the center of the screen. The left and right surround speakers are located above either side of the screen on top of the tall cabinets. The sub is in the center cabinet below the screen. The sound source is all on one wall opposite the kitchen. The Yamaha YPAO automated balance between all of the speakers, and it does so very well. There are several sound stages to choose from. They modify the equalization and delay between the various speakers to change the apparent size and tone of the sound space. All very nice, if a bit complicated.
The build quality is excellent, The speakers are housed in thick and heavy aluminum enclosures (these speakers will outlive me), the finish is a deep brushed anodized black, very classy look. The RX-V471 Receiver build quality is excellent. The power supply is very large and heavy so as to provide lots of current for the final amplifiers. The final output transistors are secured to very large surface area heatsinks. The cabinet is well ventilated for convection cooling. Be sure to keep lots of open space for air circulation around your receiver. A cool receiver is a long lasting receiver.
The sound is heavenly. It is clear, it can be very loud, distortion free, and the sound can be tuned to individual desires.

Comments about Yamaha YHT-595 5.1 Channel Home Theater in a Box System (Black):
Very pleased with this Sound System. I did some checking around and found this system the best choice for me. Going up in the price slightly to get the features was well worth it. Standby Through was a feature I really wanted. The system can be in standby mode using only 3 watts and the video and sound will pass through by HDMI cables. 4 different HDMI devices may be hooked up and selected by the remote while still in standby. The best part is when you have it on. Great sound, speakers are better then cheaper model. Bass is fine and the YPAO is nice because it sets the speaker automatically. This is a very nice sound system with all the right controls. Life is great.
