This unit only reads disks, but seems to do it well. That's fine if you just need something to install software sold on discs, etc. Without rebate offer, I'd recommend comparing this to similar units that also burn discs for same or lower price and slight additional weight. One advantage of this model over others: very light weight. I've had no problem with powering it from a single powered USB port on my notebook.

I purchased this with a netbook and I loved how lightweight it was, however it's very very noisy/loud. I tried couple of CDs and same result. But it does as is described so I can't complain too much but annoying.

I like how light weight this drive is but it is very noisy - I used it to install some software and didn't have an problems with it except the noise is annoying. I thought it may be the media but tried 3 CDs with the same result.

Barely makes the grade for keeping rather than returning. Has to be manually opened and does not eject; you have to 'hot pull' the connector.
I can't rate it as defective since it does perform all necessary functions, but would not recommend.

Drive is very lightweight and installed immediately when plugged in. Had no problems at all re-installing Vista on an Asus Laptop that's original DVD-ROM Drive went bad. Only complaint is that the usb cord is very short.
