Sony presents the Alpha A55V Digital Camera and 18-250mm Lens Bundle. Opposed to purchasing both items separately, the bundle provides you with a noticeable savings. You'll get both an impressive camera body and a noteworthy zoom lens. The lens goes from super wide-angle to a respectable telephoto length for shooting in most any situation - making it a great all-around lens to have on hand, especially for those just starting out.
The A55V is a 16.2Mp camera body that is chock-full of numerous features. Aside from a large 16.2Mp APS-C CMOS sensor, the A55V also has Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology working for it. This technology directs light at the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor at the same time. This, and the fact that there's no mirror moving about in the camera, means that you can shoot and focus simultaneously - making fast, 10 fps shooting, the norm.
In addition to capturing beautiful still images, the A55V, like any good DSLR worth its salt these days, also captures 1080i HD video. Some highlights of the HD video feature include 60i capture, Live View, and multiple recording modes to tailor each file to suit your needs. The A55V also features built-in GPS for geo-tagging of your photos. Map exactly where you take each shot for sharing online with friends or simply for archiving purposes. Among the multiple other features of the A55V some of the stand-out selling points include a tilt/swivel 3.0" LCD screen and an electronic viewfinder. The camera also boasts 3D Sweep Panorama, 15-point auto focus, and 1200-Zone exposure metering.
The 18-250mm Zoom Lens has 16 elements in 13 groups and ED glass for flare reduction. The internal focusing system provides quick focus without changing the overall length of the lens - making it both convenient and easy to transport and work with. A zoom lens of this range is ideal for shooting in most any situation. Those planning to shoot in an array of settings will find the 18-250 to be a solid choice, allowing them to capture everything from the extremely tight closeup to far-off vistas.
Please note: DT lenses are not recommended for use with the DSLR-A900
Note:Sony α (alpha) lenses with the Digital Technology (DT) designation are ideal for use on APS-C size DSLR cameras and are not recommended for use with full frame DSLR camera bodies (such as the DSLR-A900). Although DT lenses can be used with full frame cameras, they can only realize a maximum of 11Mp image size (when using the DSLR-A900), and are not guaranteed to provide accurate Auto Exposure performance

Very nice camera as it is quick with autofocus even in low light (depending on the lens).
It has very useful functions and the buttons on the back are useful and quickly change any settings. Menu is user friendly (unlike other manufacturers) and has a help function.
The bundle lens is very, very good as it was tested against Zeiss 16-80 and you can not tell any difference in color, clarity, or sharpness. You only get a better zoom with this lens and pay less, however, Zeiss has a faster, better motor.
Also, this lens is less expensive with this bundle vs by itself.
Video quality is real good as well. It performs well in low light and even better if you have a faster lens that can open-up to F1.8. Blacks are clean and sharp and colors are good. It also has smooth recording even at MP4 setting. I actually prefer that setting unless I really want pro quality!

Comments about Sony Alpha A55V Digital Camera and 18-250mm Lens Bundle:
This has been a fantastic camera so far. The photos are fantastic. The zoom on the lens is so nice, and it is nice to not have to change the lens at all. One of my favorite things, and this could probably be said about any DSLR, is that it takes a picture when I push the button. I no longer miss the perfect moment. This bundle was such a good deal.
One con that I noticed, when shooting video and the room is quiet, the grinding of the auto focus is recorded. It is not a huge deal, just something I noticed.

I am somewhat proficient with the SLR cameras, and am enjoying using this camera! I was able to charge the battery and go and shoot stunning action shots of my children at their spotting events, and school shows.

Comments about Sony Alpha A55V Digital Camera and 18-250mm Lens Bundle:
I've only had the camera for a few days and haven't tried out all of the functions. What I have tried, works well. I did find it annoying that the lens would zoom out by itself when I was walking around with the camera strapped around my neck -- then I discovered the "lock" that keeps the lens from extending when you don't want it to.
It appears that you need a Windows computer to download video from this camera. I would prefer to download video directly to my Mac. However, I also have a Windows machine, so this is more of an inconvenience than a serious problem.
Overall, this camera offers a lot of features for a great price. I also like having the 18-250mm lens because I want to use one lens and not have to change the lens on my camera.

Comments about Sony Alpha A55V Digital Camera and 18-250mm Lens Bundle:
This is an extremely light weight and intuitive camera to use. The absence of an internal mirror slamming up and down is a definite plus. The EVF is great during the day, but suffers in low light conditions due to graininess. Also, if you need a camera with a wide range in auto exposure bracketing, this is not the one for you. It allows for only +-.7 EV.

It's simple to learn, good quality photoes and light for such a camera. I'm long time Sony fan and not dissapointed. Wished it would be Zeiss optics as earlier, and not Chinese.

Comments about Sony Alpha A55V Digital Camera and 18-250mm Lens Bundle:
I am an amateur who just retired. I purchased this package for myself to step up from my Sony DSC H-9 point and shoot. Looking at the cost of extra lenses lately I thought it wise to go with the 18~250 lens. This camera has more features than I will ever need. I was put off a little by other's comments about the short battery life, but I do not think it will be a problem with the way I use the camera. Extra batteries are not that heavy to carry! I am very satisfied with my results from this camera!

Comments about Sony Alpha A55V Digital Camera and 18-250mm Lens Bundle:
I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer that has bought countless prior cameras (Olympus E-420 & 620 and a Pen 4/3 unit, Lumix LX-5, Canon G10, Leica C-Lux 3, Fuji N10 ...) looking for "tack sharp" performance. I get good but not really sharp results from all the units in carefully controlled comparisons. Finally, the Sony A55 delivers!!! Unfortunately, I have learned the expensive way (good for B&H) that you cannot achieve really sharp detail with any sophisticated advance compact camera that you can carry on a belt case and always have with you. So you must pack it all including a good tripod for really good photos. So now I carry a Casio high speed compact with built-in HDR processing on my belt for good snapshots and the A55 for excellent photos. I bought the B&H bundle priced 18-250 mm lens and a 50mm F1.8 portrait lens. I am very happy with both. Now I don't get compliments on my photography skills but I always hear "Wow, that camera takes good pictures!".

when I saw this deal at the price offered with both the A55 and the Sony 18-250, I knew it was a real value...
the A55 was the camera of the Year 2010 by Popular Photography...no wonder, it does everything pretty well in my estimation...I already owned the companion camera, the Sony A33, so I knew what the A55 was capable of...and throw in the Sony zoom at a great package price...I was convinced this was a quality purchase...and from B&H, I also knew why I always buy from them----no hassle purchase-price and return policy if something is wrong..thanks B&H...

Comments about Sony Alpha A55V Digital Camera and 18-250mm Lens Bundle:
Purchased after months of research for my wife. Although you'll find pro's and con's about every camera, this one secures the deal. I also researched Nikon and Cannon comparable cameras before choosing Sony A55. Overall for your money this camera contains features that can't be match by the other manufactures at this price. I did hold out after black friday hoping to get a better deal ([$] for body and 18-55mm lens); I'm glad I found B&H's body + 18-250mm lens. Thus saving the need to swap lenses at the moment. The camera is her first DSLR replacing our standard point and shoot camera. The pictures are amazing and saving memories of our kids growing up are priceless. She recently got their pictures taken professionally but ended up taken picture with this camera once she got home resulting in better pictures. She ended up getting her's printed to send to family and friends for Christmas rather than the "professional" ones that were done.Amazing! Although Cannon and Nikon are big names don't under estimate Sony these cameras are amazing with the translucent lenes.

I purchased this camera for overseas travel not wishing to lose photos while changing lens. I have used it for three weeks, and so far I have not found anything to discount my feelings. I showed this camera to my son-in law, who just bought another brand. After "playing" with this Sony, he returned his other purchase and placed an order with B&H for this same Sony w/18-210 Lens

I am amazed at the versatility of the camera. Has a good grip and the image quality is much much better than the canon T3i. The 10fps shooting mode is simply amazing, so it the hand held twilight mode. The biggest drawback is the battery. Its very poor! It just does not last even a few hours of use!

The camera is primarily used in the forensic engineering business but has the flexibility for use in most other areas. The 18-250mm lens makes in unnecessary to change the lens for most photography usage minimizing the opportunity for dust and debris to enter the camera body.
