The Pioneer VSX-1021K 7.1 Channel A/V Receiver is a high-powered 7.1 channel receiver that combines exceptional audio and video processing with network-ready capability to integrate seamlessly into your setup. It offers five (5) assignable HDMI inputs that carry 3D content, Audio Return Channel and Deep Color as well as xv Color.
The VSX-1021-K is also AirPlay compatible, so you can stream music from your iTunes to the receiver. You can easily connect your Apple device through the USB port and even control it with your Apple device by downloading a free "Remote" app. Enjoy thousands of internet radio stations from around the world with vTuner. This receiver is also DLNA 1.5 certified for wireless file sharing, and it is Sirius Satellite Radio and Blutooth ready.
On the audio side, it decodes several Dolby and DTS audio formats including lossless Dolby TrueHD and Master Audio to allow high quality Blu-ray playback. With Dolby Pro Logic IIz, a "front height" channel is available for a wider, more realistic soundstage.
The VSX-1021-K offers up to 192 kHz/24-bit LPCM and even FLAC file compatibility. With the interactive AV Navigator, the setup process is achieved using your iPad or networked PC for convenient integration. This receiver also offers advanced video processing with video conversion from composite and component video to HDMI for a single-wire HD audio and video experience as well as up to 1080p upscaling from virtually any source.
The VSX-1021-K also has a full color user interface on your TV. Easily navigate through the menu and enjoy iTunes album art from your connected Apple device. - 5x HDMI Inputs With 3D and ARC
- The VSX-1021-K offers five (5) HDMI inputs with fully support for 3D video content (Blu-ray, broadcast and gaming). It can send 1080p signals to your HD display for exceptional image quality for your entertainment sources. The high bandwidth processor ensures compatibility with Blu-ray audio and video so you can experience faithful reproduction of all this high resolution format has to offer. Through a single cable, HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video.
- 7.1-Channel and Digital Audio Decoding
- It uses specific Dolby Digital and DTS codecs to reproduce an enveloping 7.1-channel surround sound experience. The unit decodes Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Pro Logic IIz, DTS-ES, and DTS Neo:6. It also decodes the following HD audio formats: Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, and DTS-HD High-Resolution Audio.
- DTS-HD Master Audio and High-Resolution Audio
- This receiver is compatible with Blu-ray HD audio, so it offers both DTS-HD Master Audio and High-Resolution technologies. DTS-HD Master Audio supports bitrates up to 24.5 Mbps, 7.1 discrete channels of 96KHz/24-bit audio, and is ideal for HDMI Version 1.3a cables. DTS-HD High-Resolution Audio also offers 7.1 discrete channels of 96KHz/24-bit audio, but only supports bitrates up to 6Mbps.
- Dolby Pro Logic IIz
- Dolby Pro Logic IIz offers additional "front height" channels to fully immerse you in your movies, music and games. This helps to create a more spacious surround sound for a compelling experience, and also provides a wide range of choices for speaker positioning to optimize sound in almost any room. It works with existing soundtracks by identifying and decoding spatial cues that occur naturally in a soundtrack.
- AirPlay Compatible
- Since this receiver is compatible with AirPlay, you can stream music from your iTunes to the VSX-1021-K and play it through your home theater system. Connect the receiver to your home network via Ethernet or Pioneer's optional wireless adapter (AS-WL300) for playback from your connected Apple device or networked computer. It also allows you to view metadata including song title, artist and album art on a connected display. By downloading Apple's free "Remote" application, you can use your Apple device as a versatile remote control.
- Apple Device Connectivity
- A front-panel USB 2.0 port lets you connect and even charge your iPad, iPod or iPhone. The included USB/video cable lets you instantly access music, videos, streaming content, and photos stored on your Apple devices and supports iTunes album art. When you receive an incoming call on your iPhone, your music and movies will automatically mute. In addition to direct navigation on your device you'll find a button on the VSX-921's front panel to switch control to the included preset remote and an intuitive on-screen menu.
- PC Music Files and Internet Radio
- The rear panel Ethernet port allows you to connect to your home network and unleash the networking power of the VSX-1021-K. It is DLNA 1.5 certified so you can stream MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV or FLAC music files from your PC, laptop or smartphone to your home theater system. With support for Internet Radio vTuner, you can take advantage of thousands of worldwide internet radio stations. It's controlled by Pioneer's iControlAv2 app and makes it easy to listen directly on your receiver without the need for an antenna.
- Air Jam
- Pioneer's exclusive Air Jam application can be downloaded for free onto your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. With the optional Bluetooth adapter (AS-BT200) you can pair up to four Apple devices via Bluetooth to share music and create playlists. Through wireless connectivity you can choose songs from your device to add to a group playlist to play back on your VSX-1021-K. View the playlist on each device, and by selecting a song you can easily purchase it from iTunes or watch the video on YouTube.
- Advanced Sound Retriever Technology
- Advanced Sound Retriever technology improves the overall sound quality of compressed audio formats such as MP3, WMA, and AAC formats. It employs digital sound processing technology that helps bring CD quality sound back to compressed 2-channel audio by restoring sound pressure and smoothing jagged artifacts that occur after compression.
- Anchor Bay 1080p Video Upscaling
- Anchor Bay video processing allows this receiver to convert analog video sources to HDMI through a single cable. With lower resolution video, you can upscale your picture to digital 1080p to match the resolution of your HD display. This ensures you'll enjoy stunningly clear video from virtually any source.
- Bluetooth Compatible
- This receiver allows for Bluetooth wireless connectivity with your iPhone, Blackberry or Android smartphone or other Bluetooth-enabled sources like your laptop. The optional Pioneer Bluetooth adapter (AS-BT200) lets you hear audio from these other devices wirelessly. CD-quality playback is ensured with Sound Retriever AIR technology, which was created specifically to enhance Bluetooth audio.

- It is capable of receiving Sirius Satellite digital radio, which provides 100% commercial-free 5.1-channel surround sound music of over 120 digital channels. To listen to Sirius radio programming, you would need an optional docking adapter/tuner and activation of optional Sirius service.

It is designed to work with home theater systems to create a larger, fuller listening area without distorting the sound.

Shipped pretty fast with a really nice overall price. I hooked it up and could not get video out of the receiver. Called Pioneer and after running a few basic tests the guy said to get it serviced... (well it's brand new so I called B&H) The guy was GREAT, very helpful and quickly sent me the return label. I shipped it back the same day and Im waiting to get my replacement Receiver. I hope this one works. i've bought from B&H before without issues.

I could not beleive how difficult this reciever was to navigate. Sub would not come on with music. The ipad app was cool but big deal. If you were to use the net radio feature and left and came back to it, you would have to search through everything again. Using the HDMI for connected to my laptop was useless... I would have have unplug and replug the HDMI cable from the laptop before the reciever would regonize. Would take time to switch over to different inputs. Sounds Ok. I bought an Onkyo and it is soooooo much better. I could not believe the difference. I thought I was going to have to sick with using my 10 year old yahama.

Love this reciever. Ordering from B&H was a snap. Lots of functionality for a great price.
Setup was simple. Tuning the speakers was the easiest experience I have ever had. No guess work, or trying to trust my ears.
Sound is great with my built-in Dayton Audio speakers.
Streaming music from my WHS server has been great using the iHome add-in to my server. Internet music is a great addition.
The only negative is the limit on the inputs that Zone 2 supports. I use the digital audio for my Cable and DVD inputs, and those will not be picked up in Zone 2.
But, all-in-all, I couldn't be happier!

This receiver is part of a conference room AV system with ceiling mounted Infocus projector, recessed Da-lite 150" recessed screen, PC, Vocopro microphone system, and URC RFS200 universal remote control with RF base station. I'm using both audio zones on the receiver at the same time with four speakers on the main zone for the presentation and 2 for the presenter (microphone). Everything is controled with the one remote. Great receiver for the price!
