Thsi receiver offers a generous amount of inputs and outputs including four HDMI inputs that carry 3D content, and also Audio Return Channel (ARC). If you have a 3D HDTV or home theater projector, 3D glasses and a 3D-ready cable, you're all set to enjoy the wraparound visuals that are found on an increasing amount of Blu-ray discs and games. When 3D television programming becomes more widespread, you'll be ready thanks to the VSX-521K.
Of course, this receiver supports a host of audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and also Dolby Pro Logic IIz for an added "height" channel to add realism to your entertainment. Several Pioneer sound enhancements add to your listening experience like a nigh listening mode and surround sound when you're listening to headphones. This receiver is Bluetooth-ready, so the addition of an optional adapter means you can share files wirelessly between Bluetooth-enabled devices like your iPad, iPod, Smartphone or laptop and your new receiver. With Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration (MCACC), setup is easy and the system automatically "fingerprints" your listening space to optimize your sound.
You'll find several conveniences like 30 AM/FM presets, a sleep timer and an auto power down. With HDMI CEC compliance, you can streamline control between other devices with one remote control if they are also HDMI CEC certified. This receiver comes in an elegant package that will accent any home theater space while offering exceptional A/V processing for rich, compelling entertainment experiences.
- 5.1 Channel Surround Sound
- A cinematic experience in your own living room can be yours. The VSX-521-K offers 5.1-channel surround sound to make your favorite movies, music and games come to life. It offers 110-watt per channel output with support for an array of audio formats so you can create a detailed, immersive sound field.
- HDMI With 3D and ARC
- Full connectivity is offered through four HDMI outputs and one HDMI input that support 3D content (games, movies and other broadcasting). They also support an Audio Return Channel (ARC) so that you can send audio "upstream" from your HDTV to the receiver without the use of an additional cable. You'll also find two component video inputs and three digital audio inputs so you can easily connect all of your other gear. Large speaker terminals are featured for the front left and front right channels.
- Supports Deep Color, xv Color
- With support for Deep Color and xv Color, this receiver can carry 36-bit video. Deep Color is capable of sending over one billion colors to your display, and while this is more than the human eye can discern it eliminates color banding often present even with HD video content. This creates smoother, more realistic on-screen images.

- MCACC Calibration
- The Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration system (MCACC) provides a near studio-quality, multi-channel listening experience customized specifically to your listening environment. An included microphone measures every speaker's connection, and notes its size, distance from the listening point, sound levels and timbre to calibrate and maximize performance for the room.
- Advanced Sound Retriever
- Compressed audio such as WMA, MP3 and AAC is enhanced with another Pioneer exclusive, Advanced Sound Retriever, by filling in areas where minute details were left out during the compression process. This technology also enhances the audio quality of Sirius Satellite Radio and can realize an upper limit frequency of 20kHz with compressed audio playback so you hear clear, rich audio even from digital audio sources. This advanced feature can also restore multi-channel audio.
- Auto Level Control
- The Auto Level Control feature can equalize volume level differences between tracks playing from an iPhone or iPod or during television programming so the volume can be enjoyed at a consistent level. This way you won't have to reach for the remote to make constant volume adjustments.

A great-sounding little receiver with (4) HDMI inputs and enough power for a small speaker system. I'm using it to power an LCR bar type speaker for a 46" LCDTV and it sounds great! Has everything that one should need for a basic setup but beware--this unit doesn't support upconversion for analog video sources, so it doesn't play that nice with older equipment. With the cost of a Bluray being so reasonable, not a major worry for most people though...Cheers!

Got this for my mother to replace a Sony system that I had bought her but was too confusing for her to use. The Pioneer has discrete codes for power and input selection so I was able to program a Logitech remote to make it very easy for her to use. The only complaint is that the FM reception is pretty bad. Her old Bose system has no trouble getting stations that this system can't even detect. Fortunately, the station she wanted most comes in nice and clear so I didn't mark it down much for that.
