The Brother MFC-7860DW All-In-One B/W Laser Printer is an affordable multi-function workstation that boasts wireless networking, among other user-friendly features. Whether you're an office of one, or a small workgroup, you'll benefit from printing, faxing, copying, and scanning all from one convenient machine. And in addition to 802.11 b/g wireless networking, Ethernet, and USB interfaces can be used as well, depending on your needs.
The printer outputs 27 pages-per-minute in B/W, with resolutions up to 240 x 600 dpi. Two-sided duplex printing, a 250 sheet paper capacity, and a manual feed slot for alternative media are some of the other useful features. Paper sizes of 8.5 x 14" are compatible. You can even print using an Android smartphone using the free Brother iPrint&Scan app.
The fax machine boasts a 2.5 second transmission speed, thanks to the 33.6Kbps modem, and a 500 page fax memory. Other features, such as a 208 location auto dial, caller ID, and Distinctive Ring Ready also lend a helping hand with your workflow. The copier features 27 copies-per-minute, flatbed or ADF copying, and functions such as reduction/enlargement and sorting.
When it comes to the scanner, scans can be made in B/W and color with interpolated resolutions up to 19200 x 19200 dpi. The scanner is both Windows and Mac driver compatible and the Brother iPrint&Scan app allows for scanning from, and sending scans to, your Android smartphone. Scans can be saved as TIFF, BMP, MAX, JPG, and PDF formats.

This printer is fantastic. We purchased in an effort to not have the issues we've previously had with ink jet printers and to limit the number of cables I have to run to make the thing work.
We were somewhat cautious when we bought this machine as many of the reviews state it's loud and that sleeping the machine when connected wirelessly was a challenge. That being said, here are my laymans summaries of what most of the comments state.
1) Set up on this is incredibly simple. It's primary location is near our iMac but it's also run wirelessly on a Dell laptop. Neither machine has any problems running the printer as networked.
2) Many reviews complain of noise......at best, the level of noise on this machine is that of the fan on older desktop boxes. It isn't at all disruptive or "loud" by any stretch. Should noise abatement be a big issue to you, you can set the time to sleep in the printer menu and it simply quiets down.
As for the operation of the printer and the quality of print overall, FANTASTIC. It's very quick to print, exceptionally clean print quality and will deliver as many pages of print in rapid succession as you demand of it.
It's our home office workhorse and we could not be happier with it!!!

Brother MFC-7860W - An Absolute disappointment!Absolutely regret my decision of buying this printer.I was leaning towards HP model; however, given my past experience with Brother's HL-2170W, I jumped on a great deal I got it for over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday (2011) sale.I have a network of two Windows (XP & 7) Desktops, two Windows 7 (64-bit) laptops and an old iMac; and I tried to setup this printer wirelessly. But what a let down! 1. Constructed of absolutely cheap/flimsy plastic2. Horrible, non-intuitive interface3. Trashy documentation with illegible instructions, images; on poor quality paper4. Fax does not work with my XP based PC with functional modem.5. Tedious Setup Menu on the printer for Fax, Scanning etc.6. Wireless mode, scanning does not work…the printer LCD screen freezes on "Connecting to PC" message and quits after a bit.7. Outdated drivers CD included; and the latest driver download (Oct. 2011 version) prompts very poorly designed window prompting to "Select Language", however, prompting country names with only four options, namely, "fra, ptb, spa, usa" – without any regard to any intuitiveness. (I still can't figure out what country is "PTB")8. Excessively loud while printing; and you could hear the fan going on and on (2-3 minutes) after the printing/copying has stopped.9. It is definitely not worth [$] or [$] that it has been advertised for. Ninety-nine dollars is the most reasonable price one should pay for this QUALITY & BUILD of this printer. I got it on sale due to Black Friday, however, it's still not worth the price I paid for it even though I got a fantastic deal, I must say.10. Does not work with Mac OS/X 10.5.8 on a wireless network. As a matter of fact, I researched a bit more and requested an RMA for a return with a thought of going the route of HP's M1217nfw, however, it does not support legal size printing/scanning. So, essentially, I'm weighing my options of whether it's worth going through the hassle of returning. All in all, in my opinion, this is an Okay printer with good text printing, however, not worth spending (up to) [$] that some outlets are charging.

Comments about Brother MFC-7860DW All-In-One B/W Laser Printer w/Wireless Networking & Duplex:
Purchased for a small office that needs the multifunction machine, it was easy to setup and add to the wireless network and perfoms the basic functions well. Only negative comment would be it is a bit noisy if you sit too close (I relocation the machine and now not an issue.

Comments about Brother MFC-7860DW All-In-One B/W Laser Printer w/Wireless Networking & Duplex:
We use this for just one person in our office, but it could very easily be shared. Setup is easy, and the operation is trouble-free. It's also fairly quiet. Would have given it 5 stars if the scanning feature were more intuitive. We'll be buying more of these.

Comments about Brother MFC-7860DW All-In-One B/W Laser Printer w/Wireless Networking & Duplex:
Great value for a multifuction laser/scan/fax. I use the print and scan functions, and do not use the fax. We don't print high volume or need fast output.
User interface is just OK. Usable, but not super easy and intuitive.
The drivers were a huge headache for me running Mac OS 10.7.3. I had to contact Brother tech support and it is a known problem with Apple's Software Update. It is fixed now, but I was used to Software Update easily hooking me up with the appropriate drivers with no issues at all.
Our last multifunction scan/printer was an HP that wore out after a few years. Used to be high quality but their build quality has worsened over the years. We heard good things about Brother and decided that, at this price point, we should try them out.

This printer works well for routine printing of business documents and copying. Printing is crisp and speedy, and the duplex function works well. Scanning is easy, although I haven't yet figured out how to scan to PDF format instead of JPG. I really like the 'deep sleep' mode, and find that the printer wakes up quickly to print when needed. It has a smaller footprint than my first Brother MFC printer, which is really nice.

Received just a day or two after ordering with free shipping, nice! We had a very similar Brother all-in-one previously so learning curve was short. Wireless feature is nice to have. Our last Brother was a workhorse and we hope this one is the same. Choosing a Brother brand was an easy decision. Prints fast and flawlessly. Only con I can see so far is this unit is just a little noisier than our last but not overly so.

I bought this on Black Friday so the price was amazingly good for the type of printer. Setting up the fax took me some time since I am using ooma and the software isn't too user friendly. But after configuring it, it does the job well. I also like the fact you can print from ipad, ipods and android devices.

Comments about Brother MFC-7860DW All-In-One B/W Laser Printer w/Wireless Networking & Duplex:
We switched to this in our small home-office (1 Attorney, 1 Photographer, 1 Student) after growing frustrations with inkjet printers that vacuumed our wallets dry with ink usage. The vast majority of our output is monochrome, and we were tired of replacing ALL the ink cartridges even though all we ever used was black.
This unit copies, scans, and prints perfectly. Setting up on our wireless network was easy. It works with all our Macintosh computers.
My only real complaint is the bright blue light on the front of the unit that stays on ALL the time. As this is a home office it is like having a big night light in the next room all the time. I find myself laying things atop it at night to prevent it from making the whole house glow blue.

Comments about Brother MFC-7860DW All-In-One B/W Laser Printer w/Wireless Networking & Duplex:
Price point is good. But you get what you pay for.
PROS
- Cheap laser printer with duplex features
- Easy wireless setup
- Brother has great tech support
- Toner/drum is pretty inexpensive
CONS
- Print quality is fair at best
- Bends/curls paper no matter what weight you use
- Toner runs out quickly
- NO USB cable included
While the Brother MFC-7860DW All-In-One B/W Laser Printer w/Wireless Networking & Duplex was a good model for the price point, I cannot recommend it for a small business. The print quality isn't that great for a laser printer and those bended/curled paper is completely annoying and looks unprofessional. Go with an HP, OKI, or Xerox.
