Avid Mbox Pro - FireWire Digital Audio Interface
The Mbox Pro from Avid is their third generation FireWire digital audio interface that allows for recording, editing and mixing performances with the highest audio resolutions. With a comprehensive set of connectors it's an easy matter to connect microphones, instruments, outboard effects, monitors, other analog, digital, and/or MIDI gear with a computer, to capture and create studio-quality productions.
The eight simultaneous inputs and outputs are ideal for self recording or for capturing a small band or ensemble. Additionally, one can attach a footswitch to control punch ins/outs, while maintaining perfect sync with other digital devices through Wordclock I/O. Advanced features include an integrated guitar tuner and a professional-grade soft-clip limiter to prevent distortion when tracking louder sources. And set up cue mixes with reverb using the onboard DSP.
The Mbox Pro can be paired with most audio recording or music creation software such as Logic, Live, Fruity Loops, Cubase, and more. Or use the interface with Pro Tools (not included) for maximum speed and ease and get total session compatibility with Pro Tools studios worldwide.

I'm using my MBox Pro as a road version with my MacBook, to my Digi 003 MacPro Tower Studio setup. I purchased the larger of the 3 versions primarily for the added versatility for long form recording and editing on the road. Works well and sounds good. Compact and metal case are ideal for travel.
For ProTools users looking for a cost-effective upgrade from an older system...consider the MBox Pro.
