The SM93 is an omnidirectional, subminiature, lavalier electret condenser microphone designed for use in TV broadcasting, theater, and sound reinforcement applications where a visually unobtrusive microphone is desirable. Despite its small size, the 93 microphone element provides full, clear sound comparable to that of much larger microphones. Its frequency response is tailored to body-worn applications, with low-end rolloff and presence rise. Optimum pickup is achieved when the microphone is worn on the user's chest. However, high quality sound can also be obtained when the microphone is worn in the hair, sewn into clothing, or attached to an acoustic instrument such as a guitar. The SM93 is supplied with a sew-on mounting bracket, a mounting block with attached tie bar, and an acoustic windscreen to minimize wind noise in outdoor applications.
The SM93 is also supplied with a dual mounting block with attached tie bar. The SM93 is powered by phantom power supplied by broadcast, sound reinforcement or recording equipment, or an external phantom supply. The SM93 operates over an extremely wide voltage range of 11 to 52 Vdc, covering both DIN and IEC phantom power standards. A dual-channel power supply (Shure Model PS1A) is available for providing phantom power to the SM93.

Buying our first professional camcorder with XLR jacks (a beautiful low mileage 2003 Mini DV Panasonic DVC80) meant it was time to replace $29.99 mini-plug AT lavaliers (a good value on the low end.) What does the extra hundred dollars buy? Better sound, no batteries, with phantom power from my cam, and those wonderfully solid XLR connections. Remember, this pickup is an OMNI pattern, so you'll get all the extraneous sounds-which works in my situation for interviewing off mic. It is as advertised. You could spend a lot more for less.

Comments about Shure SM93 - Omni-Directional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with Preamplifier:
Just used this mic for the first time on a week long shoot that included interviews on a construction site. Even with all the background noise, I'm very pleased with the quality of the audio - much clearer than I expected and has a great warm quality when recorded on my Zoom H4n.
This setup packs and unpacks easily, is compact, easy to use and I love the handy belt clip on the adapter.

Comments about Shure SM93 - Omni-Directional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with Preamplifier:
I use this for stationary interviews where the subject doesn't have to do a lot of movement. The preamp is a bit heavy but if the subject doesn't have to move too much it's not difficult to deal with.

If you are looking for an economical XLR pro lav mic this is it. Sounds good, very small, can be hidden under clothing easily. Comes with foam windscreen that helps keep it quiet under clothing.
Dont know how durable it is, just got it.

Build isn't bad. The belt clip where you plug in your XLR cable is a little heavy for how small it is, but other than that I've had no problems. Sounds fine.

Comments about Shure SM93 - Omni-Directional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with Preamplifier:
I use two of these as part of my interviewing kit for documentaries. If you want something that will give you professional level sound without breaking the bank, these are great. They do need phantom power so remember to purchase a phantom power source when purchasing this item. Also, be generous with the length in XLR cables that you puchase. I use these with a 25ft length of XLR so that they suit the purpose of any interview sitation.

We are a local non-profit TV station that provides production and air-time to a lot of pastors. These mics are fantastic for this application. Good sound, durable and great price. Standard stuff here.

I use this for doc style interviews. Does a decent job of rejecting background noise even though it is an omni mic. Sounds great, but disclaimer: I am listening to the audio on not the world's best speakers.

I use this mic in situations that don't require a wireless mic. It's excellent for voice-overs and "talking-head-style" interviews. Its an essential tool in my camera bag on all shoots.

This mic is great for things like sit down interviews, and dinner table dialog scenes. Using a wired mic when you can saves you rental costs, as well as the headaches of using digital hybrid systems. The size of the capsule makes it incredibly easy to hide in wardrobe and clothing.

Comments about Shure SM93 - Omni-Directional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with Preamplifier:
I use this mic (actually 4 of them) for depositions and conference room setups. The sound quality is good, with good off-axis pickup.
The windscreen supplied with the mic is a bit large - and a light gray color - so I replaced it with a smaller black windscreen to make the mic less visible on clothing or ties.
