The N3200XXX 3-Bay NAS Server from Thecus is a superb server storage solution for your home network. While no hard disk drives are included with the server, it can hold three SATA II 3.5" hard disk drives that can deliver fast data transfers and store massive amounts of data. With your drives installed, you have the option to format them in a RAID 0, 1, or 5 configuration that can be encrypted. You can also configure the drives as a JBOD. So as to ensure smooth video streaming, snappy system responses, and wicked fast file transfers, the server utilizes an Intel Atom N270 Technology Processor and 1024 MB of DDR2 SODIMM SDRAM. In addition, and to the same end, the server is capable of utilizing the iSCSI protocol. You can also more efficiently allocate storage space with the iSCSI thin-provisioning.
You can use the server in a number of different ways, such as a media server, backup server, FTP server, TFTP server, and printer server. The N3200XXX is particularly suited to function as your multimedia server. It includes the Piczza photo server. Plus, you can remotely access and download your video, music, or image files anywhere in the world with the included software (and an Internet connection). For connecting to your network's router or switch, the server features one Gigabit Ethernet WAN/LAN1 port. It also features one Gigabit Ethernet LAN2 port, if you want to establish a wired connection with a computer directly to the server.
As a nice added touch, the server comes with a variety of different ports for connecting other devices. It features one USB 2.0 port on the front so you can instantly copy contents from a USB drive as well as one USB 2.0 port on the back for connecting peripherals such as IP cams, printers, and disk drives, for example. Plus, it features an eSATA port on the back so that you can connect up a high-speed storage device. This server supports Windows, Mac, Linux, and UNIX clients, making it an excellent option as your home network media server.

Comments about Thecus N3200XXX 3-Bay NAS Server:
I'm using this for centralized file storage and as a backup target for my home and small business. I installed three 2TB Seagate drives. configured in Raid 5.
The user interface makes setup and maintenance easy for the more experienced user. Those who are new to NAS storage concepts and setup will be challenged.
I also use the 2200XXX as a music server. It is configured in Raid 0. Realtime streaming is fast for media in Wav and AIF format.
