If you're the experimental kind, experimental photography that is, then cyanotypes should be right up your alley. Blue Sunprints' Cyanotype Cotton Squares - 6 x 6" (25 Pack, Mixed Colors) in mixed colors is a psychedelic trip of beautiful, bold image making. This pack includes 25 cotton sheets in a variety of colors: violet, lime, raspberry, orange, and turquoise. The area where you place your objects or negatives will be the cotton's original hue, while the negative space will be a deep, dark contrast. With such an array of brilliant colors, this mixed pack of sheets is an excellent way to liven up your work, or your life!
These cotton squares are pre-washed and pre-treated. All you have to do is lay your desired objects on top, out in the sun, and then rinse after it's exposed. Due to their archival nature, after the initial rinsing the squares can be washed time and again without worry. And because these aren't your normal everyday photographs, it's easy to use them for mixed media, or even sewn onto clothing or into quilts. Embellishing the sheets is an option as well. In fact, the only thing limiting the uses is your own imagination. On that note, both sides of the sheets can be printed on - each side with its own images.

- How to Make a Cyanotype Sun Print

1. Choose your designYour design choices are nearly endless. Here are some ideas: Drawings or photographs that have been printed on transparencies or acetate. Actual objects such as leaves, flowers, string, toys, letters, hands, jewelry. Experiment with photographic negatives, x-rays, cut-outs or clip art, lace, and sheer fabrics. Use your imagination - try anything! Once you have chosen your design, lay it on the cyanotype material. To hold your design in place during your sun exposure, use a piece of clear glass or Plexiglas for a tight contact or lay your design loosely if there is no wind. You can also choose to pin your design down into a piece of cardboard or foam core
2. Expose your sun printFirst make a test print by exposing your design in the sun for different lengths of time on a small section of cyanotype material (use the test print chart included in the instructions as a guide). Then choose the best exposure time to get the tone you want. To print on both sides of the cyanotype material, first expose one side to the sun using your desired exposure time, then turn the material over, lay the same or different design on the second side and expose it for any time you choose. Once you have exposed your sun print, remove your design
3. Rinse your sun printWhen you rinse your print in water for a few minutes (until the water runs clear) your cyanotype print will begin to appear immediately. The negative space on the print will be a dark hue and your design will be the original color of the paper: violet, lime, raspberry, orange or turquoise. If you want a darker effect, spray hydrogen peroxide on your rinsed print. The darker color will appear instantly
