We use these to communicate between booth operator and camera operator while filming classes at our school. The snug fitting earpiece is great, if you can get it properly placed in your ear. It takes a little bit of wiggling to get right, and that's the only thing I'm not absolutely thrilled about regarding these walkies. Of course, it would be easy to just get a different ear piece, as these support the standard earpiece inputs (unlike the previous Motorola walkies we were using... We actually upgraded to these because the earpiece on ours broke, and Motorola no longer make earpieces that work with the older models.) Regardless, the camera is located in the middle of the classroom, surrounded by almost 400 other people, so it's very necessary for the camera operator to be able to communicate quietly so as not to disturb the class. The mic picks up whispers crystal clear, and is also fairly adept at isolating outside noise when the classroom is noisy and the operator is trying to communicate.

Best radios I've found in this price range. 32 mile range is a joke; these (like all FRS radios) are line of site radios and you might get 1 mile with obstructions. We use them for our maintenance crew and they get pretty beat up - typically last about a year before they stop taking a charge or just shut down unexpectedly - Sometimes have to take out battery to reset. We haven't found an alternative....

We recently took a cruise from New York to the carribean on one of the big cruise ships. We bought these radios the morning before the trip at B&H. They worked fine and are really handy for keeping track of people on the ship. We couldn't find a situation where the radios couldn't communicate and the cradle style battery charger made it easy to charge them at night. Bring a 3 way outlet because the state rooms have limited plugs. Oh and they are supposed to be waterproof we never submerged tham but it's nice to know that we could.

The product is great! We used it in rural Mexico and though it does not work for the 36 mile distance, it does work up to about 15 to 20 miles, which is great when there is no other communication option.

Plan to use it with headsets for assistants.
I like that the units are small, have a TON of options, the menus are pretty easy to understand after checking the manual.
The fact that they have their own batteries as well as taking AAs is very useful, my only kink with their batteries is that theres no notch or anything to help you take them out, flat screwdriver to pry them out required.
Charger also gives no indication if the units are fully charged or not.
The headsets work well but are a tight fit.

Comments about Midland GXT1000VP4 2-Way Compact Communication Radio (Pair):
These radios are good for short distance. They would be great radios if they had programmable repeater channels. That's really the only draw back. I can get about 1 mile in a suburban wooded area. Everything works great on them and they're pretty durable. All in all, I'm satisfied. You can't get much better for the price I guess. Just remember that if your going to use channels 1-7 or 15-22, get an FCC GMRS license, $85 for 5 years.

Used for hunting in the Colorado mountains. Ok, they didn't go 35 miles as I wasn't on the planes of Kansas, but they did work well in the few miles needed in the steep terrain and canyons. Very pleased with this product. Cuffmeister

The Midland radios worked well for our needs. We used them at Zion National Park. In some areas reception was poor but that was to be expected in a canyon. With just a little clearing I was able to communicate with other hikers in my party quite a bit further in the canyon. I would recommend these radios and to make the purchase at B&H. I saved about [$] over REI.
