Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for Windows is professional nonlinear editing software that allows editors to work directly on the timeline with every major tapeless camera format, including P2, XDCAM EX/HD/HD50, JVC ProHD, AVCHD, AVCCAM, DPX, RED R3D, Canon XF, and Nikon and Canon DSLR. Support for these formats is native, so no transcoding or re-wrapping is required.
You can also import and export most other popular video, graphics, and audio file formats, such as FLV, F4V, MPEG-2, QuickTime, Windows Media, AVI, BWF, AIFF, JPEG, PNG, PSD, TIFF, and more. (DV and HDV capture via FireWire is, of course, still supported as well.) The powerful software allows you to mix these supported formats on a single timeline, with high-quality scaling and flexible interpretation rules that engender exceptional output from mixed-format footage.
To support flexible, fast, and powerful creative editing, Premiere Pro CS5.5 features the 64-bit Mercury Playback Engine, which delivers astounding software performance with or without GPU acceleration from your graphics card. For this version, CS5.5 offers additional GPU-accelerated filters and effects. Tight integration with other Adobe Creative Suite programs has long been a hallmark of Premiere, and for version CS5.5, Adobe adds round-tripping of projects with Audition CS5.5 for fast, flexible audio editing.
Note! Premiere Pro CS5.5 requires a 64-bit operating system.

Comments about Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for Windows:
Use the program for video projects at work. Have used other editing systems in the past, and Premiere Pro ranks right up there with the rest of them in terms of ease of use and quality of end result.
So far, the only con is that I am not as familiar with it yet as I am with other editing software, but that will change with time:)

I use Premiere Pro CS5.5 for editing commercial video. It works very well on my laptop with 8GB RAM and I can natively edit H.246 files although it is a bit jumpy.

Comments about Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for Windows:
Using PPro5.5 to edit 1080/60p footage from Sony HDR-CX560V.
Excellent handling of 1080/60p input with seamless Dolby Digital 5.1 pickup as well.
Can output many formats including h.264 MP4 up to 1080/30p with DD5.1. I've got high hopes that 6.0 will support output of 1080/60p with 5.1 sound; for now it looks like no one supports in the under-$2K software realm.
Multi-core and even HT support really helps cut down on render times and on renders needed during edit sessions. Turning on HT to present 8 procs out of a core i7 rarely seems to boost much; this PPro5.5 really does use all 8 CPU's and speeds renders & encodes considerably.
GPU support includes major gains from hardware acceleration. My little ATi5750 has been well-used and keeps from needing re-renders for most effects and transitions during the edit sessions; when I do need to render it's been very fast.
GPU support for NVidia's CUDA is even better, with ability to offload some render code to the GPU. This is likely beneficial to certain effects-heavy videos, but if you've got a core i7 and 12+GB RAM you'll be very happy with your render times anyway, and so far CUDA doesn't do encode processing.
Adobe is very good at price control and piracy prevention. BH had an unusually low price in a package that was "limited qty" but looked legit. The first thing I did when I got this package was login to my account and check the serial number. It came up right away as a valid key that I had the right to register. Good on ya, BH, for putting together a deal with Adobe that brings this excellent software within reach of more prosumer & high-end home users!
On install, before even uncompressing the files its setup required - and validated online - the serial number for registration. The UPC sticker on the box said something about "web", I guess that's what they meant, and maybe that was part of the "special" in this "special package". It is a full-on package, not the monthly subscription version, but it does require a web connection and online registration to even begin the install.

Comments about Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for Windows:
I just bought Adobe Premiere Pro cs5.5 and love it! This is my first professional editing package (used coral video pro--consumer) and I found it very easy to learn. I've had no problem editing avchd. If I ever have a question, then I either hit the adobe help website or go on you tube where you can find all sorts of free helpful tutorials. The learning curve isn't that steep especially if you have some basic editing under your belt. I tried the trial versions of edius and avid, but I found the adobe package to be the most intuitive. So far, I haven't seen any negatives, but I've only been playing around with for a couple of weeks.
