Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for Mac is professional nonlinear editing software that allows editors to work directly on the timeline with every major tapeless camera format, including P2, XDCAM EX/HD/HD50, JVC ProHD, AVCHD, AVCCAM, DPX, RED R3D, Canon XF, and Nikon and Canon DSLR. Support for these formats is native, so no transcoding or re-wrapping is required.
You can also import and export most other popular video, graphics, and audio file formats, such as FLV, F4V, MPEG-2, QuickTime, Windows Media, AVI, BWF, AIFF, JPEG, PNG, PSD, TIFF, and more. (DV and HDV capture via FireWire is, of course, still supported as well.) The powerful software allows you to mix these supported formats on a single timeline, with high-quality scaling and flexible interpretation rules that engender exceptional output from mixed-format footage.
To support flexible, fast, and powerful creative editing, Premiere Pro CS5.5 features the 64-bit Mercury Playback Engine, which delivers astounding software performance with or without GPU acceleration from your graphics card. For this version, CS5.5 offers additional GPU-accelerated filters and effects. Tight integration with other Adobe Creative Suite programs has long been a hallmark of Premiere, and for version CS5.5, Adobe adds round-tripping of projects with Audition CS5.5 for fast, flexible audio editing.
Note! Premiere Pro CS5.5 requires a 64-bit operating system.

Comments about Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for Mac:
Fairly new to the video editing scene, so take this review with that in mind. I had used an early version of Vegas years back (mainly for home videos), but nothing this elaborate. But my employee wanted the capability to produce Blu-ray, and everything I read said Encore is the way to go. So purchased CS5.5 mainly for Encore, as we already owned a version of FCP.
I'm just blown away by how many steps(and different apps)one must go through to actually produce a working Blu-ray. Everything from software to simply get the data off the P2 cards, to the actual editing, and then the compressing, and then the burning. yada yada yada. But the bottom line is, I was able to produce a product, though I have a lot to learn yet.
I would strongly suggest making use of the multitude of tutorials available on the web.

I use premiere to put together video presentations for our church after I make a trip over to visit one of the missions locations where we are helping in around the world.
I am new to using premiere, but have found it to be pretty easy to learn. I look forward to continuing to learn it and expand my ability to use it.

Fifteen years ago when I started NLE I used Premiere. I switched to Final Cut about five years ago and I glad I came back. There are too many new features to list here. Suffice to say "I'm back for good.
