Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium for Mac (Upgrade from Individual CS Programs) is a complete package of professional software programs that allow you to create, manipulate, edit, enhance, package, and deliver images, graphics, audio, and video. To be able to use this upgrade to Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium, you must own one of the following products for Mac OS X (no cross-platform upgrades from Windows versions are possible):
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.x, CS4, or CS3
After Effects CS5, CS4, or CS3
Photoshop CS5 Extended, CS4 Extended, or CS3 Extended
Photoshop CS5, CS4, or CS3
Flash Professional CS5.x, CS4 Professional, or CS3 Professional; or Macromedia Flash Professional 8 or Flash Basic 8
The Production Premium suite centers around Premiere CS5.5, for video editing, and After Effects CS5.5, for visual effects, and adds several other deep, powerful programs. With such a vast range of useful programs and tight integration between the applications, it's clear that the whole of the CS5.5 Production Premium collection is greater than the sum of its parts.
Those parts, of course, include some of the best-known, most-used applications in professional digital content creation: Photoshop CS5.5 Extended, Illustrator CS5.5, and Flash Professional CS5.5 are the household names, and their continually updated feature sets keep them essential. The suite is rounded out by Flash Catalyst CS5.5, Media Encoder CS5.5, Device Central CS5.5, OnLocation CS5, Encore CS5, Bridge CS5, and, making its debut in the suite, Audition CS5.5, which replaces Soundbooth and introduces true multi-track audio editing to Production Premium.
Start your production by recording quality-controlled video via OnLocation. Shepherd it through Premiere for cutting (where stronger support for dual-system audio is a welcome addition for DSLR video producers), Illustrator and Photoshop for graphics, and After Effects for visual effects (such as the Warp Stabilizer, for cleaning up shaky footage) and color correction. Use Encore, Flash Professional, and Device Central to deploy to the Web, mobile devices, TV, and Blu-ray disc. Throughout, keep all your assets updated and accessible via the application-spanning Bridge CS5. All that's missing from this picture is collaboration, and Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium addresses that aspect of creation, too. Adobe offers tight integration between this suite and its CS Live online services, which include Story, a collaborative script-development tool, and CS Review, an online review service.
Driving much of the back-end processing is the Mercury Playback Engine, which takes advantage of 64-bit computing to deliver video playback and effects processing at levels previously unseen outside of dedicated six-figure postproduction suites. Suddenly, 4K productions employing multiple streams of video and layers of effects are within your grasp.
Note! To be eligible to purchase and install this upgrade, you must own one of the listed programs on the Mac platform and have the serial number from the previous product. Without a serial number from an eligible Mac version of one of the programs, the software will not install. Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium requires a 64-bit operating system.

Purchased this as an upgrade from Photoshop CS3. Worked wonders. Dynamic link is great, 64-bit apps are fast.

Comments about Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium for Mac (Upgrade from Individual CS Programs):
I recently attended an Adobe customer session where the new CS 5.5 was displayed. I was really impressed with what could be done with After Effects and a few other parts of the suite and wanted to own it.
Having already purchased Premiere Pro CS 5.5 a month ago, I did not want to buy the entire suite again and wasn't sure what the upgrade path was as it isn't clearly laid out anywhere. A few days of web searching and I found this upgrade! I ordered it and it arrived a few days later.
The suite is extremely worth it I think as an end to end solution. While I'm not against using other editors like FCP/Sony Vegas/Avid/etc, using one set of tools from the same company assures consistent naming and gui conventions. No fussy hacks or scripts for the technically impaired for importing/exporting files. You simply save your project in Premiere, then you can import it into After Effects to edit. All that to me is worth the price of the entire suite.

Great reason to finally upgrade from Premiere Pro (solo) because you get After Effects and Photoshop. Adobe Audition is a great addition as well. Works great on Macbook Pro 2011. Get a Lacie external drive. (a fast external drive is a must for premiere for scratch disk, previews, etc.)
