The 2-Bay ShareCenter Network Storage Enclosure with USB Printer Port from D-Link is a network storage enclosure that can house two 3.5" SATA hard drives. It connects to your network via a Gigabit Ethernet port, and is compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux client operating systems.
A built-in RAID controller allows you to configure the drive as a RAID 0, RAID 1, or JBOD. RAID 0 and RAID 1 require you to install two hard drives of equal storage capacity. RAID 0 stripes the two drives together, writing half of the data to one disk and the other half to the second -- greatly improving performance. If either disk fails, all data is lost.
RAID 1 mirrors data to both disks, creating a real-time copy of all of your files. If either disk fails, none of your data will be lost -- you simply need to replace the bad drive and the backup will be recreated. JBOD simply concatenates both disks as one volume, offering no performance or data protection benefits -- but giving you the flexibility of installing disks of different capacities in the enclosure.
The enclosure features a number of enhanced network functionality that go above and beyond the capabilities of standard storage devices. A built-in UPnP AV server allows you to stream data to DLNA-certified devices -- including the Boxee Box. The enclosure also supports network data backup, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file downloading, FTP and web access, and more!

Comments about D-Link 2-Bay ShareCenter Network Storage Enclosure with USB Printer Port:
I decided it was time to create a networked backup of my families files. This little unit does the job well.
I have 2 2TB d
It took me a few minutes to figure out how to name the shares(the default is VOLUME_1, I just created a subfolder named what I wanted, shared the subfolder, and unshared the default).
I did not try the included software to configure, I used the http configuration tool works just fine.
My windows systems(XP,7) where able to see the NAS, and its shares right away. No trouble after setup.

Comments about D-Link 2-Bay ShareCenter Network Storage Enclosure with USB Printer Port:
Solid NAS, processor twice the speed of the previous DNS-321 product, has USB port to sync USB thumbdrives or publish a printer. Allows you to publish to UPNP/DLNA compatible devices (TVs, Media players). You can also store & stream a DVD ripped to an .ISO file to your DLNA TV or client. Supports 3rd party apps and Linux widgets for those hackers out there (rsync, telnet, ftp, etc...) Some have dissed the plastic case vs. the previous model's aluminum, but I'll take the cost savings, it still looks nice on a desktop, you don't have to hide it. It does attract dust however (static).

Comments about D-Link 2-Bay ShareCenter Network Storage Enclosure with USB Printer Port:
When you need shared storage that will last you a while and be there on demand this will fit the bill. This is the second of this type of device I have. The unit is very small and very fast and very quiet. I used to have a dedicated computer to do the work of this which was every bit unlike this. I would highly recommend this unit.

Comments about D-Link 2-Bay ShareCenter Network Storage Enclosure with USB Printer Port:
I needed redundant storage for family photos, documents and music. On-Line backup wouldn't work for me because I was out oof space already. This simple product, combined with 2 HDDs plugged right into my ISP provided router and I ran the setup files from my laptop. Within minutes I was transferring my files. Using Raid 1 (mirroring) all my files are written to both drives simultaneously. If a drive goes down, I still have my data on the other drive and won't lose anything. It was also easy to setup a FTP server, but I don't use this function of the NAS. There is a problem with how it updates its DDNS, so read up on that.

I am using this product for storage on my network. Using two Seagate 1.5T green, raid 1. Some software options could be better explained. Overall, I am quite satisfied.

Comments about D-Link 2-Bay ShareCenter Network Storage Enclosure with USB Printer Port:
I am using the D-Link in a RAID-1 configuration to backup my PCs and other data I care about. Setup of this box only took minutes. Straight forward and easy to configure through any web browser connected on your network.
My only complaint is that the doc and specifications do not really say it only supports up to 2TB drives...where I bought 2 3TB drives. D-Link customer support tried to be helpful, but in the end they just told me that 3 TB drives are not supported.
While messing with it on my own, I discovered I could format the 3TB drives down to 2 TB and it would work fine.

The ShareCenter provides excellent storage, especially for my 1000's of photos. It was easy to set up and, so far, has worked flawlessly.

Comments about D-Link 2-Bay ShareCenter Network Storage Enclosure with USB Printer Port:
I run a small, 2 person, web/graphic design business out of my home and I needed more storage with no fuss. This ShareCenter was my first venture into network storage and I can't be happier with the result.
I simply took the unit out of the box, connected the power cable, connected the wire to my wireless router, and ran the install program, and had almost instant storage; took less than an hour to set up. I was worried it would take me days or at least a day but all I did was follow the step by step setup software and was done. The best part about ShareCenter is it's "plug and play" easy set up.
After ease of use, expansion was my next must have. Now I can easily install bigger hard drives, it holds two, when my business expands, just by sliding a new hard drive in with no fuss.
I figure eventually I'll need to buy even more space but for now this is the ideal product for any newbie venturing into home/business networking with an eye to the future.
