I do a lot of hiking and backpacking and love to know where I was standing when I took a particular photo. This device is great for that! It's extremely lightweight, holds a charge for a very long time (and doesn't drain your camera battery), and stores a ton of capture data. I have taken the photoGPS 4 on long trips in Denali National Park and the Grand Canyon (to name a few) and the only times there were issues with tagging accuracy were completely my fault (e.g. shooting with too much cover overhead, in a deep and narrow slot canyon, or when connections had come loose).
The included software is easy to use. Lots of people have complained that you need an Internet connection to tag your photos, which is true, but that doesn't prevent you from off-loading the data from the tracker and saving it to tag photos later, so you can tag photos once you're back in civilization. It's certainly not a deal-breaker. Besides, this device can store so many captures that I've had no difficulty at all with running out of space on week-long trips.
As everyone on here has said, there is a design flaw: the tracker can fall off your hot-shoe at a whim. This requires diligence on the photographer's part, but if you form good habits you won't lose it. I slide the tracker onto the hot shoe when I'm about to take a picture and immediately take it off and store it when I'm done. I've managed not to lose it on week-long backpacking trips, so it can be done. (I have considered fashioning a leash for the tracker but haven't done so yet. It would certainly be possible if you tend to lose things.)
Another thing to be mindful of: the tracker comes in two pieces (the tracker itself and the adapter that attaches to the hot shoe). I leave in adapter in place because it fits snugly, but over time it can start to slide off, especially if you use a top-loading chest-carry camera-bag like I do. I never lost the piece, but the adapter slid off just a bit so that it lost connection. Just check it every once in a while to make sure that it is all the way into the hot shoe and that the tracker's LED lights up when you take a photo.
Overall, this is a great product. It fits my needs, and its weight, battery, and storage size make it ideal for adventure photographers.

Well, It looked promising and in testing it in my hotel room, worked like a charm. However, the unit is actually two pieces...A small connector that sits between the hotshoe and the GPS unit itself. The connector piece must have been too small as it easily slid off of the hotshoe and the unit itself kept sliding off. However, I figured that it would be worth a try, expecting to return it when I got back home. Unfortunately, after walking for about 10-15 minutes from my hotel, I went to take a picture and it had already fallen off. I did have the small connector piece though :(So, [$] later and 15 minutes later, I had nothing to show, expect for the empty box. I know that it is partly my fault and should have returned it as is in the box, but the construction was really, really, poor causing the loss. Come on..I can bounce around all day with my much larger flash....Oh well. I'll never be an early adopter again!George M

Comments about Jobo photoGPS 4 Hot Shoe Activated GPS Data Logger:
Using the Photo GPS 4 is the more inexpensive way to get a Canon 5D Photos Geo tagged. It beats the other option by about $700 to $900. the 10 Meter accuracy is not always true. It has been off by more than 500 feet on different pictures. Sometimes is doesn't move its location off the 1st spot that pictures were first taken. this maybe a user problem. However, when it works it really works very well. Had to jam a piece of tape on the bottom of the hotshoe to keep it from sliding off the camera. So do this before you ever attach it to the camera hot shoe. It will fall off. So for the reasons above you get a 3 out of 5 stars.

Comments about Jobo photoGPS 4 Hot Shoe Activated GPS Data Logger:
I have been using the PhotoGPS for two years and have learned how to appreciate it. It is simple to use with a great efficiency. I experienced two problems with that device (the fist generation). I lost one unit because of its loose connection to the hot shoe and one because the metal connector on the base of the hot shoe connector Brock. The recent model (GPS4) has taken care of both of these problems and have become even simpler and faster to use. For me, PhotoGPS is an integral part of my photo gears and I never go out photographing without it.

This a very useful product. I travelled a lot and made hundreds pictures in every trip. I had to write every place where I shooted a picture to remember the place. Now I had an excellent opportunity to avoid thhis monkey job. The devvice is excellet. The only problem I found that it could easily slip from the camera. I used velcro to fix it.

Comments about Jobo photoGPS 4 Hot Shoe Activated GPS Data Logger:
JOBO photoGPS Product works great (with my Olympus E-5), and offline after for photo-tagging.
But the lack of proper fixation on the hot shoe (I can have a tight fit with my external flash by screwing-it fast) means it often dropped off when touched by a branch for instance.
I finally lost it after 2 years of use and near-miss.
Note: to save on memory data, turn the unit off when in a given location for a while (taking a first and last control point).

The GPS system works well, and it`s easy to merge gps data to file information.
However; the product design is poor, especially the "missing" locker for the hot shoe. This product falls to easy off the camera, and you either loose it or destroys it.
Ad a locker, and this is a great product!

Comments about Jobo photoGPS 4 Hot Shoe Activated GPS Data Logger:
I am using the Jobo photoGPS for many years now. It is very good in getting the GPS data. The software is useful to tag the photos as it is not possible to save the GPS information directly with the file when shooting (e.g. Canon is not supporting this only with the expensive Wireless Transfer device). Unfortunately you need an internet connection to tag the photos which is impossible when you are traveling in remote areas.
I am rating only three stars because of one big no-go: the device has no fixation like flashes have so it falls very often from the camera. That's how I lost one of these GPS and I had to buy another one - I already contacted Jobo to solve that problem and hope they will change it with the 5th generation.

I will mainly use the gear for my travelling and my earlier testing found this is useful and quite accuracy as well. If the data could appear on each image that would much perfect.

Put the photoGPS on the camera and shoot. Import the images into a folder on your computer. Connect the photaGPS to the computer, import the gps info, let the software match photos and gps info and tag the pictures with the gps location. Not as easy as having a camera that tags the pictures while shooting, but a solution when you have a camera that doesn't do it for you. A little work but acceptable.

Got the unit and tested immediately with my Olympus E-5. Everything is perfect: very fast and exact spot recognition, easy software installation and amazing final result when picture that I took and picture that retrieved by software on Google Earth just match each other.
