The water, shock and dust proof Samsung W200 Rugged Full HD 1080p Pocket Camcorder (Titan Gray) is designed to follow you on any adventure. It's specially crafted to record safely in up to 10' (3 m) of water and it features special white balance and sound design, which limit the loss of audio or video clarity that's common to normal underwater recording. The W200 records in full 1080p HD and features 1920 x 1080 resolution or 1280 x 720 resolution. For taking still JPEG images, the W200 can capture shots with up to 5.5MP and 2720 x 2040 resolution. It boasts auto focus, auto shutter and auto white balance. Plus, it has a built-in microphone and records audio in AAC file format. For video, the W200 uses the H.264 recording format, and it also enhances the recording quality by reducing image noise and distortion. For playback, you can use the mini HDMI port to view your Full 1920 x 1080/30p recordings in Full HD on a compatible HDTV. HDMI transfers uncompressed high-definition video and audio for crisp and clear playback of your memories. The bright lens on the W200 affords several aperture steps for shooting with higher shutter speeds in low-light. This helps prevent blurring and image distortion.
The camcorder also features Record Pause and Smart Filter. Record Pause lets you pause recording without starting another file and Smart Filter gives you tons of artistic options to jazz up photos and video. The W200 also has a built-in USB arm and MicroSD Card slot. The USB arm lets you quickly charge the device in any USB port, as well as upload content onto your computer. With a MicroSD Card slot, you can easily store your content and then load onto your computer later. By infusing the W200 with several useful, fun features and a durable design that houses an HD image recorder; Samsung has created the ultimate travel partner for adventurer in all of us.

I did quite a bit of research on the different multi-proof pocket cams. I chose the Samsung for a number of reasons. First off is the 2.2 lens. Better than most in lower light. The pause button while recording which eliminates many small files. The 10 feet water and 6.5 feet shock resistant. Fog proof lens etc. Once I got it into my hands the real testing began. I own a back yard pool, boat and cabin so having a video camera that will hold up to some of these extremes was important. My six year old and I took it to the pool. All I can say is unbelievable! We had a blast. The video was crystal clear both above and below the surface. I posted the video on Youtube and it was actually featured on the Samsung web site as a favorite video. You can view on Youtube by searching Samsung W200. I have a much larger Canon HD video camera that I would typically take with me if it fit into the activity. With the Samsung I take it everywhere. I take video every day and share on my video web site with my family and friends. I absolutely love it. Battery life is great. It is so easy to use my six year old figured it out in minutes and had it under water while swimming. One thing I found out, when coming out of the water I need to blow the water from the mic hole or it gets muffled for a few minutes until it drips out. No big deal. It charges from any USB home or car phone charger or while plugged into a computer. It has a tripod mount on the bottom and we actually put it on a tripod at the bottom of the pool while swimming. I rigged up a clamp and suction cup that can be mounted in the boat or motorcycle etc. I clamped it onto my sons bicycle handle bars while he drove around the block. Then I turned it around and recorded him and his expressions while he took the same route. Blended the two together in edit and sent to my out of town family. They were amazed! This thing is a blast to play with. As far as the still shots, Not to impressive as expected. That's not why I bought it. My Canon video does take better video by far but I knew that would be the case. For fast video to share with my family this is perfect. The included edit software is pretty basic and very limited as to what it can accomplish. I chose not to use it and instead use Sony Vegas. I would imagine most current edit software will handle the MP4 files just fine. Importing files onto my computer is done with the usb arm. Simply drag and drop onto my computer and edit. Much faster than my Canon tape system. I can have a quick edited video in minutes not hours! I thought the pause button on record would be a big deal. Really not for me. I prefer to have a seperate file everytime I press record as opposed to one large file. Much easier to edit later than chopping up one larger file. My final thoughts- The Samsung W200 isn't going to replace my current camera or video cam. This will be in addition to what I currently use. Zoom is digital and sound is mono. This is slightly smaller than my iphone but full 1080 HD video plus water proof, shock proof and dirt proof. It's a great camera and a lot of fun for the price.

Start up is super fast. Vid quality is good. It is very handy, will fit in your pocket and is easy to operate. Waterproof is great. Major problem with mic - if used inside a moving vehicle the road noise kills the sound quality that ok at best already. I will use my Canon S5IS for my trip. No 1080 but the audio is much much better for someone documenting their travles.

I love this camera! I live in Portland, OR where is rains like crazy, so I needed a camera that would stand up to the rain, and this little beast does! I love the rugged body, also the anti fog lens is perfect! I also use a Flip UltraHD, and the W200 is great because I can add up to 32GB micro sd card memory and the battery lasted me average 2.5-3 hours. The camera is awesome underwater, especially while using the aqua mode in the camera settings. No leaks, nothing wrong happens when I am in water with this camera. Great buy!

Comments about Samsung W200 Rugged Full HD 1080p Pocket Camcorder (Titan Gray):
I purchased the W200 two days before leaving for a trip to Belize. After a quick read of the instructions and a five minute practice session with the camera, I felt very comfortable in its operation. I used the W200 while snorkeling, cave tubing, and playing in the pool with the kids. The camera worked as stated in its description. I am ecstatic with both the still photos and the video footage. Everything came out crystal clear. You can't go wrong with the W200.

Works very well for how it's advertised and looked at a lot of reviews when deciding which pocket camcorder to get. Shoots great video and has good sound quality for its type. The first one I got had a microphone problem and didn't pick up much besides noise, but B&H's quick and easy RMA procedure allowed me to get right back on track, so I'm very pleased now with what I have for a camcorder.

Comments about Samsung W200 Rugged Full HD 1080p Pocket Camcorder (Titan Gray):
Pocket size is the best part of this product.
I had products before where I would buy them but too lazy to carry them around and use them. They basically ended up being obsolete collecting dust.
This thing powers up fast and I can start recording right away. I can carry around in my pocket.
Things that might be an issue...okay = average
The recording quality for indoor is okay
Battery life is okay
Recorded file size is fairly big (more time wasted transferring to computer)
Sound recording is okay
Zoom range is okay

I have only taken a few pics and videos so far but will have more in a few weeks.
I did lots of research for an inexpensive camcorder that was rugged and this one one out over the kodak playsport zx5 because of video quality and better low light vidoes and the pause button and overall performance.
There should be a way to plug this into the wall socket to charge but samsung says it will only charge when plugged into a pc usb.

Comments about Samsung W200 Rugged Full HD 1080p Pocket Camcorder (Titan Gray):
I purchased the camcorder to quickly get short video clips of my 1yr old daughter since I never took out my miniDV camcorder anymore. I also go boating a lot, so I wanted something waterproof.
This camcorder is perfect for catching those fun moments in life just as they are happening. From power on to record is about 4 seconds. It records in 720p or 1080p--a 16GB microSD card will hold over 2 hours of video at 1080p. The camcorder is very inexpensive for what it does, but it also only gives you what you pay for.
There is no optical zoom or manual white balancing. Overall it white balances well on its own, but once in a while with indoor lighting it struggles. When playing back videos, you can only fast forward at 2x speed. So if you want to show the end of a 5 minute clip it will take a little bit of time to get there. The built-in USB adapter works perfect on my laptop, but not so well on desktop computers--you might want to just get a USB extension (since it also charges via its USB adapter). Although better than SD, the HD quality was not impressive. The videos are not going to be even close to as sharp as a high-end consumer HD camcorder.
But no one buys a camcorder like this for doing feature length films. This camcorder is absolutely perfect for family vacations or wet trips, or even capturing the events you wouldn't have bothered with capturing before. It is only a little bit bigger than my smartphone so its easy for me to put it in my pocket.
Best of all, it's kid-proof. My daughter got something sticky in the power switch, so I just soaked the camcorder in a glass of water for 30 minutes and now it works perfect again.
Don't let the 4 stars hold you back. I gave it 4 because there are several simple things that could be improved upon without increasing cost.

Great camera but buyer be aware, it does not (NOT) come with a card. Purchase the Micro SD card when you order. BH, you should add that bit of info to product description. Otherwise, great camera.

Migrated from a JVC HD to this camera. Much easier to use and quality is good. Charge time is okay, no speed record. Went back and bought a 8GB SDHC card from B&H, much cheaper than [@] & [@]. Also bought a USB cable so the camera doesn't need to hang off the side of the computer while charging. All in all a nice pocket video and better optics than an android phone.

Light-weight, yet sturdy and compact so I can carry it in my purse for impromptu photos and leave the bulky, expensive camera home. You can take a still shot from a video, which is also a terrific feature.
Wish the sound was louder. It's easy to use and will be great this summer in the pool and ocean. Don't have to worry about being splashed anymore.

This camera was purchased after I had my new baby and was fine for around the house. I liked that it was waterproof, shockproof, was good in low light, and it had excellent clarity on the LCD screen and when played back on my computer. However, it felt kind of light and plasticky, plus it didn't have a macro function which I also wanted. I ended up returning it for a cheaper Kodak ZX5, which has the same features, plus macro and has been great for the basic video we use it for.
