The EV did not disappoint on its first use at the London Notting Hill Carnival launch. I was commissioned to produce three short clips for webcast and a 40 minute film of the event. The EV was used for interviewing VIPs and distinguished guests. Linked to a Shure FP33 audio capture was pristine despite my 15 year old son at the controls. No echo or handling noise inside and certainly no wind noise outside. I didn't even use a windshield! The presenter I used kept waving the mic around initially due to nervousness (or did she lie to me about not being camera shy)? Not a single pop. There were no reflections in the video footage due to the matt black finish which gave it a quality look too.
First impressions - excellent sound capture with quality you can feel. I look forward to the journalistic and documentary use I purchased it for.

Comments about Electro-Voice RE50/B - Omni-Directional Handheld Dynamic Shock Mounted ENG Microphone (Black):
Use it any time it need a dependable stick mic. Seldom need a wind screen. Reporters drop it all the time and keeps working fine. When the finish gets dinged up you can send it in to be refurbished.

This mic came with the "Sennheiser EW 100 G3 Series Dual Basic Kit (B / 626 - 668 MHz)" i received as a gift, and it really comes handy, and as the kit comes with the wireless transmitter, well, it's definitely a no brainer.
Excelent sound quality with nothing to set up or do to the mic, other than connecting the cable and starting to talk.

I use this microphone daily for news gathering.
This is a very durable microphone, the only reason we ever have to by new RE50s is due to the paint chipping off. These microphones have been dropped, kicked, covered in mud, and still keep working.

The RE50 is very much an industry workhorse. You know when purchasing this product you are buying a reliable tool of the trade which with a little care will give a good twenty plus years of service.
Like the Shure SM58 or Sennheiser 416 the RE50 has carved itself a notch as an industry standard.

Can't complain about much of it. Good stand-up/intro microphone and can run as a pinch-camera shotgun.
You can never go wrong with a basic microphone
