I leave the receiver portion in my computer all the time. It's so short it's never in your way. The on off switch on the mouse makes it simple to turn off when not in use. I would prefer the outside of the unit to be less smooth in your hand but for the price you can't beat it.

I bought that mouse with my netbook. Design, comfortable use, fast responding, long operation range - alll things are very nice. However, not pretty sure about wireless transmitter, it's so small and can be lost :), but not yet :)
