Comments about Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green SATA Internal Hard Drive:
Right now I got the drives in a raid 5 array
its very very power efficient Does not heat up a lot and has a longer life span then the black caviar
The only con is that it goes idle, but in fact that's the factor that makes it power efficient and to last longer :(

Comments about Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green SATA Internal Hard Drive:
I use this for ext back drive - so far it works great - maybe not as fast as a 7200rmp drive but it's a back up drive - i use after 5 pm so speed is not as important - it's nice to have 3 gig on 4 platers and not 5 - with the 650megs per plater and 64 meg buffer it is faster than other 3 gig 5400RPM drives - I keep it as an ext drive on a USB3 port and a USB3 ext ext drive plug in holder which makes it faster than a USB2 port - you just need to be sure your puter can format and use 3 gigs

I'm using this for a Back-up drive on an ext USB 3 box - being a back-up drive and not a boot drive I'm very happy with proformance - 3 USB speeds things up - I like to put back ups on an ext drive so if something happens like virus - power surge - the dive is off line - now if you don't have newer hard ware 3 TB can be a problem - I could not format the drive on the USB ext box but I could on my ext ESAS box - I can store a lot of backups with 3TB -

Comments about Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green SATA Internal Hard Drive:
Energy efficient at 6W max, reasonable performance for a NAS box. I've put the drives into my NAS box. My measurements show single drive 81.85MiBs sustained writes/118.7MiB sustained reads under Mac OS X 10.8.6 and Mac ZFS 74.1.
Note of caution: this is one of them WD's Advance Format drives. Read about them before putting it into a Windows box.

Comments about Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green SATA Internal Hard Drive:
Plenty of space for photo files.
Fast for the size.
No problems so far and it has a good replacement warrenty through Western.
One issue to be aware of is that on a Windows system you will need Vista or Win 7 (not sure on Win XP)to use it fully. Also, on Vista you will need to use the online help from Microsoft to set up the drive (this is only on drives bigger than 2TB). Easy if you follow the instructions. Took about 15 minutes.

Comments about Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green SATA Internal Hard Drive:
This is a great hard drive for the price. It uses less energy than a regular harddrive but it makes it a little bit slower. (usually only when opening the drive (a small delay) but it runs amazingly well. If it weren't for the slight delay this bad boy would git a full 5 stars.

Comments about Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green SATA Internal Hard Drive:
I'm using 4 of these drives in a Desktop RAID configuration (ZFS). They work very well, but required a bit of work to setup in my non-windows environment. The large cache has been great for high read speeds. If you are planning something for a large dataset, these drives are great but will take some planning on your part to use properly.
Pros:
* Cool, Quiet, and Energy efficient. Supports SMART.
Cons:
* Advanced Format Drives (4K sectors) may require a bit of effort depending on your OS.
* Load Cycle Count advanced rapidly until adjusting the idle-time.
Gotchas:
* wdidle, a DOS based utility may be required to adjust the auto-park timeout to something reasonable to keep the Load Cycle Count low.
* Drive reports as 512byte sectors rather than 4096. Things must align on a 4096byte boundary for optimum performance. Lots of manual partitioning math to ensure 'alignment'.

Bought it for Drobo but have to wait for the updated fireware to be released. They say by the end of June. I have the 2 gigs and have been very pleased with them.

Comments about Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green SATA Internal Hard Drive:
They warn that you need specific operating systems to handle a drive over 2 terabytes and even then it's best to go by the book. I bought two of these to mirror (RAID 1) in a desktop used for photo production and ended up with two non-mirrored 2 terabyte hard drives, having to go back and do it over. So be careful and follow their instructions.
