Don't tell anyone, but the Toshiba Camileo B10 HD Camcorder has a secret identity. By day, it's a candy-bar-sized full-HD video camera. Its 5MP CMOS sensor delivers smooth 1080p motion images and 16MP stills, complete with 16x digital zoom, Face Tracking, Motion Detection, and SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card support. That means you can record every exciting (or even not-so exciting) event in your life and, with a push of the Upload button, share it instantly with the world. Pretty good stuff.
But beneath the glossy veneer of the B10's everyday self lurks the functionality of a webcam. And not just any webcam. The HD sensor gives you far greater image quality than most laptop and peripheral webcams are capable of, plus the camera can be moved as far across the room as your USB cable will allow. That means no more hovering by the computer, afraid to move out of view. And with the included stand, you can set the camera up on any flat surface and talk hands-free. You could even use the B10 as a rough-and-ready monitor for checking in on the action in other rooms (how's Baby sleeping?).
So whatever you do, don't take the Camileo B10 at face value. It has more than one--and one of them may just be watching you!
- HDMI Output
- As you'd expect from any camcorder big or small these days, the Toshiba Camileo B10 shoots video at a top of the line, full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution--and at a buttery smooth 30 frames per second. You don't just have to watch the video back on its 2.0" (5.1cm) screen, however. With the mini-HDMI port residing on it, you can simply plug it into any flatscreen TV and view it back just how it was meant to be seen--in the comfort of your living room.
- Webcam Double Identity
- You probably wouldn't find filming the inside of your study very interesting, but Toshiba has built in an excellent reason to use the Camileo B10 indoors as well as out: it doubles up as a webcam. Simply connect it to your computer via a USB cable and you can conduct video webchats with friends and family at the touch of a button.
- Still Photo Smarts
- You don't just have to use the Camileo B10 as a camcorder: it'll neatly replace your compact camera or smartphone for still photography as well, thanks to its sharp 5-megapixel CMOS sensor. You can swoop in up to 16x magnified with its digital zoom, and Toshiba's clever technology allows you to even take stills that appear to have a 16MP resolution.
- SDXC Support
- Whether or not your friends will appreciate you filming everything, all the time, we can't say. But with the Toshiba Camileo B10, you could: that's because it's been future proofed with SDXC card support. It's a new type of memory card that looks exactly like the ones you use already, but just so happens to fit much more in, with 64GB cards already on sale, and the potential for up to 2TB numbers in the years to come.
