The Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit combines a m4 solid state internal drive with a kit that facilitates a quick and simple data transfer from one drive to another. The Solid State Drive has a SATA interface and is capable of transfer speeds up to 6Gbps. It's designed with high-speed synchronous MLC NAND, advanced controller technology and optimized NAND management. Unlike traditional hard drives, the RealSSD features no moving parts, which provides quieter and cooler operation - as well as better durability.
The Data Transfer Kit makes it simple to copy everything from your old hard drive, including operating system, data, email settings and applications, to your m4 SSD. The kit comes with EZ Gig III Cloning and Imaging software if you use Windows and Shirt Pocket SuperDuper! software if you're working with a Mac. For convenience, Crucial adds a USB to SATA cable as well.
The standard SATA interface will dramatically improve your computer's data transfer speeds for bandwidth-demanding applications like audio and video. It will also improve everyday operations like viewing and editing photos and other media, gaming, communications, productivity and security. The m4 SSD provides blazingly fast, reliable data storage and retrieval, while the kit helps you upgrade your notebook drive in just three simple steps.

Comments about Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit:
I received the product from B&H in March but wanted to wait a while before submitting a review to better familiarize myself with the product.
Overall I am highly impressed with the quality of the 256GB Crucial M4 with Transfer Kit. It was a very easy step by step process to go from my much slower HDD to this very fast SSD using the supplied cloning tool.
My main purpose for this drive is gaming and video editing. In use, this SSD greatly reduced my load times. I also use this SSD as my boot drive, Windows boot and Windows Update times have been reduced. No more waiting what seems like hours for updates to install when you're trying to shutdown.
I also like Crucial's business model as they were willing to release firmware updates FOR FREE for all their devices unlike other manufacturers.
As a side note I would greatly recommend keeping your old HDD installed (if you are using this SSD in a Desktop and have room for two drives) as a secondary HDD for storage (or as a Project Scratch Disk as I use with Adobe Premiere)

Comments about Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit:
B&H offered the lowest price on this SSD/cable combo. Standard free shipping was very fast.
I installed this SSD in a brand new, Late 2011 15" Macbook Pro.
The only issue with intallation is the included version of SuperDuper! would not run on OSX Lion. I downloaded the latest SuperDuper! from their web site and everything worked.
Specific step-by-step documentation for SuperDuper! needs to be more clear.
The duplicated SSD worked flawlessly after bootup.
When installing in a Macbook Pro, realize the screws are very tiny. Even the tools I have for working on computers were not small enough. You will need eyeglass type tools.
Performance is fast, and battery life is increased.

Comments about Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit:
Easily intstalled in my MacBook Pro 2007 and speeds up time lag. Doesn't speed up connection or streaming video but helps with boot times and page lag. Transfer was fairly easy but had to re-transfer as I did not make the new drive a boot drive at first. Had to look up installation on the internet but was fairly easy to find.

Comments about Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit:
The provided data cable, software, and instructions were simple, easy to follow, and accurate. I was amazed at how easy the whole process actually was. About an hour was all it took for the copy and installation process. Much quicker than I expected. The Hard Drive is lightning fast, quiet, and extremely low on the heat generation scale. Highly recommended!

Comments about Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit:
Both the product, and the assistance from the B&H Photo rep are outstanding.
The SSD works like a treat - I installed this on my Windows 7 machine, and have seen massive improvements on my startup, and sleep/wake times. I addition (as would be expected), application start-up times have been dramatically reduced.
The installation was a snap, plug in the USB, transfer the data, install in the bay & connect the SATA cables, open the bios set the new SSD as primary boot - and Windows started without any reconfig or issues. The longest part was the data copy - 2hrs from box open to running machine.
This looks like one of those really cheesey reviews written to get people to buy a product ... it's not, I just cant fault this item! :)

Comments about Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit:
I bought this for my Late 2011 17" Macbook Pro. Installation couldn't have been easier, and after a formatting the drive I proceeded to install Lion which took less than 10 minutes (on my old MBP with a 7200 RPM HDD it took over 30 minutes!). So far absolutely no issues, with the latest EFI 2.3 update which I applied before installing the SSD I've had none of the issues that others were reporting (beach balls, system freezing, etc.). It now cold boots in less than 13 seconds and apps open almost instantly. This is blazing fast. So far I haven't enabled TRIM because researching the subject a little I found that many who've tried to enable it in OS X had experienced kernel panics and other problems, so I'm relying on Crucial's garbage collection until Apple allows TRIM for 3rd party SSDs. I would definitely recommend this SSD or any Crucial M4 SSD to anyone looking to speed up their new or old computer and have absolutely no complaints or problems with it. It is simply the best value for a SATA III SSD that you can find and that paired with Crucial's 3 year warranty and excellent customer service make this a definite buy over other SSDs.

Comments about Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit:
I bought one of these to put in my big tower desktop PC as a replacement for a standard hard drive. I work at this PC pretty much all day, every day, doing software and other development - so it is important for me to have a machine where I don't die of boredom waiting for things to happen.
The change to the SSD means that the machine now boots in a few seconds, and opening files, web browsers, PDF viewers, and other things is now close to instant.
This has to be one of the best performance-improving purchases I've ever made. I'd go so far as to say: Before upgrading a PC, get an SSD. The performance improvement may mean you don't need to get that new processor and motherboard.
The data transfer kit and included software made the process of copying my existing hard drive over simple and painless. After following all the prompts and letting it run an hour or so, I just unplugged the old HDD and plugged in the SSD in its place. It has all worked like magic.

Comments about Crucial Technology 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive with Data Transfer Kit:
I installed this in my Dell XPS m1330 laptop, using the included software and cable. Everything went smoothly, except that for some reason I needed to insert my Windows 7 CD for a few resarts afterwards while it fixed something about the bootloader.
I haven't done benchmarks, but I do feel like my system is definitely faster. Startup of course is faster, but frankly I leave my laptop on most of the time so who cares.
What really surprised me was how quick sleep or hibernation was... Whereas in the past I wouldn't use sleep or hibernation I'm now doing it often, saving power. I think not having to spin up the hard disk is a big factor.
And the real surprise was how much more comfortable I feel moving the laptop around while it's turned on. Kind of like getting a dull aching tooth removed, you didn't realize the pain until it's gone. Now I am free to hand my computer to a colleague for them to type something in, without cringing every time they set it down wondering if they crashed the HD. And when I put the laptop to sleep or hibernation I don't have to wait for the state to dump to HD before packing it up.
I've not seen the 20-40 second system hangs that other m4 users are reporting, with my Win7SP1 install.
It was a bit scary that the software disk came with a program used for alerting you when the hard drive is going to fail, but didn't explain what that program was; I had to google to figure it out and decide not to install it right now. And I had to run the hard disk copying program in a mode where it wouldn't verify the copy, again a bit scary.
I've been running with this for a week or so now and not had any issues at all.
The only limitation is that I no longer have space for my photo archives on my laptop hard drive, but installing this SSD motivated me to start keeping my photo archives on an external hard drive at home which can be backed up quickly due to the SATA interface, so in the end I'm probably better off than keeping my archive on a slower laptop hard disk (which last me about a year between crashes on average).
One piece of advice: don't skimp on disk space. Sure you can probably get by with a 64gb disk if you don't have any files, but I've got 101gb worth of music and documents, and only 93gb free out of 238gb, so my system, just a few applications, and all the cache files take a full 45gb and growing. Going with a smaller disk would have required lots of hassling with lowering cache settings and disk space low issues.
