Panasonic's Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens is designed for use with Lumix G Micro 4/3 cameras. It provides an angle of view similar to a 50mm lens on a 35mm or full-frame digital camera, and the wide f/1.4 maximum aperture can deliver beautiful, bright photos and videos with softly out-of-focus backgrounds. Built to Leica's usual high standards, this lens delivers excellent image quality with minimal distortion or chromatic aberrations, with a sturdy metal mount.

Nano Surface Coating minimizes reflection over the entire visual light range, resulting in sharp, clear images with very little ghost and flare. The use of the Ultra High Refractive index lens and glass mold aspherical elements helps the lens maintain superb uniformity edge to edge. Seven aperture blades form a circular aperture for very pleasing out-of-focus areas in your images.

F1.4 brightness allowing a beautiful soft focus for photos and videos to be even more impressive
A superb image quality with minimum distortion, chromatic aberrations that pass a stringent Leica standard
The UHR (Ultra High Refractive) index lens and glass mold aspherical lenses for achieving uniformed description from the center to the edges
Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology minimizes reflection at the entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) by applying the extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structure on the surface of the lens. It results in super clear pictures with dramatic reduction of ghost and flare.

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

I have the Panasonic 20mm f1.7, but bought the Leica because so many people raved about it, and this is the focal length I use most of the time. All I can say is, the Panasonic is great, but this is way better.
Pictures from this lens have a completely different kind of snap. It's definitely the best m4/3 lens I've used.
A large and useful lens hood is included; many manufacturers charge extra for these.
That said, here are some cautions: If you're posting your pictures on the web, or making 3x5 prints, you won't see much difference. Buy the much cheaper and smaller Panasonic.
Second, the Leica is really big, and really heavy. I still use the Panasonic 20mm when size, weight and convenience matter.
Overall, a terrific lens, and completely worth the money.
Oh, and I use it on an Olympus OMD, and it doesn't "chatter" at all. Apparently that was a problem with older versions, or other Olympus cameras.

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

Bought this as a companion to my Olympus 45mm, both of which I'm using on my Lumix G3. This is a really great lens, sharp, focuses easily, nice wide open or f-stop closed down. I have used it in some low light situations and this and the Oly 45mm both performed well.

Objectively speaking, IQ is great. Bokeh quality is amazing. Build quality is solid, does not feel like a toy or cheaply made. Weight is light and balanced on an Olympus EP3 and Panasonic GX1. Size with the hood is pretty big, but it grows on you and you can always take the hood off. I see it well worth the money I paid for. It does attract dust or lent around the zoom ring, better there than on the front element.

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

This lens is as close to perfect as any I've ever used. It's the first prime I got for my OM-D, after hearing rave reviews about it, and I am very, very impressed. It's sharp wide-open, with excellent optics. The colors are lovely, the out-of-focus areas very pleasing. I've used it for a little bit of everything so far: portraits, astrophotography, nature, stitched panoramas - it simply makes great images of whatever I point it at. I almost hate to take it off the camera. Definitely a lens that's worth considering! It's larger than the other m4:3 primes I've seen, but it balances nicely on the camera. And it comes with a lens hood, which is a nice touch. It's physically very well built, feels like it will hold up well, and the focus ring is very smooth and well dampened. I think I'm in love!

I primarily us the lens for portraits and photographing my dog. Unbelievable Bokeh. Autofocus is very quick on my Lumix G1. Fantastic in low light. If I had to report a CON it would be that the lens is a bit heavy, but it's a non-issue for me. This lens will live on my camera body.

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

I traded my Panasonic 20 mm for this lens after I bought one for work and realized just how much better it is. The 20 mm is technically sharper according to some test, but to my eye this lens beats it hands down. Not only is it sharp at all stops, the images are more colorfull and vibrant. One of the big pluses of this versus the 20 is the speed of focus, this is just as fast as the 14-140 in single and continuous mode on a GH2 and it fast enough in continuos mode to be useful on a steadycam. the 20 seemed to always miss the shot, and the focus was off in front of the eyes, this one nails it.The disadvantages are the cost, obviously its a nice lens but it should be under $400 (and the 20 should be under $300, IMO). The other thing is that I liked the 40mm equiv. focal length better than the 50 normal, but thats personal preference, and lastely its much bigger than the 20, but not much heavier so its not really a big deal, it ballances a lot better on the GH2 than the tiny 20 did. I would give it 4 1/2 stars because of those three things, but honestly this is the superior lens and, honestly, worth a little extra money.

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

For the past few years I've been using zoom lenses, with all of their faults. (slow, and not as sharp and contrasty as I would like) It's nice to get back to my photography roots - a fast prime "normal focal length" lens. This Leica branded lens is sharp as a tack and is very high in contrast. The Bokeh is very nice making it suitable for informal portraits. It focuses very quickly and silently, and lives up to what I expect from something marked "Leica", even though it is made by Panasonic in Japan.

The lens is on my camera 90% of the time. The only other lens that comes out of my bag is my 14mm f/2.5 when I need a wider field of view. if you can get your hands on one you won't regret it. Not a real leice, but not a real Leica price either and it performs like no other m4/3 lens.

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

I used this lens on Olympus E-M5 for three weeks and I'm taking one star off for auto focusing speed on E-M5. It might be faster on Panasonic camera but on E-M5 I found myself sometimes taking taking 25mm off if I needed to capture my kids faster. It is still good just not as good as Olympus 45mm or Panasonic 14mm on e-m5. For a moment i thought that maybe I should have purchased Olympus 12mm instead of 25mm because of focusing speed in low light and even in good light but I like the focal length, Image Quality is great and focus speed is good enough anyway. Just wanted to point out that its not as good as Olympus lenses. No, lens does not produce amazing photo automatically but with good technique its capable of great photos. I mostly use it at f2.8 or f4, I really like the photos i get at f4. for E-M5, if I had buy new lens again, i would buy 45mm first and then this 25mm. Olympus 45mm is amazing on E-M5. This two lenses is the reason why I'm keeping e-m5.

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

For about a year, I have been using the Olympus Pen Micro Four Third System. Until now, I have used just the basic kit lenses (14-42mm Zoom and the Panasonic 45-200mm Zoom Lenses) I have read and heard of the next steps up the Lens Tree for the Micro Four Thirds System and decided to try a fast normal lens. I have decided to keep this lens. After purchasing the lens I put it through a good workout... My Review: This Lens will Ruin you for "Kit" Lenses ! I struggled in my mind about taking the plunge for a plain "Normal" lens for my Olympus E-P3, but with a good return policy from the supplier, I needed to know if there was a "Real" improvement in the Image Quality. The lens is mostly plastic with a metal mount, but it does feel solid and balanced. After all they make jets out of plastic materials. Using the lens was like going back to my first days in photography with my old Pentax Film camera and the 50mm lens that I never removed. I was back to moving myself to frame the picture since no zooming was available. Right Away I noticed the Sharpness and Detail I could capture with the little 25mm lens. You must be careful not to overexpose with such a bright F1.4 aperture. In bright sunshine you will need to stop down to F5.6 or F7.1 to be able to not burn out the shot. You could use Neutral Density filters if you had to use the larger apertures. But I did find that the Bokeh was still stunning at the smaller apertures. The Bokeh was not as creamy as the big apertures, but the point of focus was expanded and you had less chance of too much softness. This lens is a lot of extra work, but you are rewarded with a large jump in the presence and atmosphere in your pictures. I would buy this lens again, it is satisfying!

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

Hockay peeps this is a review from a semi amateur point of view, i've now had the 25mm summilux len for about two weeks now on my old trusty Panasonic GF1, and before receiving the 25mm lens i only ever own the Panasonic 14-45mm lens and realizing my camrea was unless in low light, And so far the 25mm lens is doing everything that i what of lens and is also living up to the Leica standards. I also found most of my photo to me very crisp and clean with fantastic depth of field view. So for any one think of buying this lens [$] is money well spent and you won't be disappointed.

Excellent lens. I bought this with Lumix GX1. Fast, sharp, good contrast, quick autofocus. Can use wide open. Sometimes makes grinding noise when focusing.

I use this lens to shoot portraits in low light. It is super sharp, fantastic shallow depth of field (aka Bokeh), and wonderful depth in the digital capture. For me it is a must have lens for the GX1.

Comments about Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Micro 4/3 Lens:

This lens is fast, and the image quality is great.

It is a little large for a MFT lens, but the quality makes up for the size.

Regarding the size; it's about the same size as my Canon 50mm F1.8 II - although the Leica is built way better and just a bit heavier.
(And almost 10x the cost, unfortunately) :)

Great bokeh and render quality at all apertures. The build quality is also top notch, as is the smooth movement of the focusing ring. Wait, can't forget about the silent and fast operation of the lens in comparison to Panasonic's 20mm.
