The two most important features to me were the All-in-One capabilities and the wireless network. The set-up could not have been easier -- literally, at the push of one button on my router, it was on the network. Nice! Setup was easy and very well documented. Printer was running in 10 minutes, without connecting it to computer. Typing wi-fi password on printer was a pain, but I understand that yo don't have many choices in such case without full keyboard.
I was intending to connect printer to our wi-fi router, that was one of the reasons I picked up this printer. It didn't work out-of-box, printer was not visible only by computers connected on LAN. Such computers were fine and able to print. But wi-fi connected computers didn't see the printer. But as I found out, that was a router setup issue.
It took me some time and googling to realize that I have to disable wlan isolation on my router. Since then everything works like a charm.

I wanted a small home printer. I don't print too many pages daily, but may be about 30-40 pages a week. I was looking for an inexpensive printer. But more important to me was having the option of scan+copy also. Laser vs InkJet : there were many cheaper choices if I settled for Inkjet , but then the hassle of catridges & ink said no to inkjet. I shopped online for a good laser printer witin my budget. I found this and ordered. The order processing and delivery was fantastic. The item arrived a day before the promised date.
I opened the box, it came with a software+drivers CD. I have two laptops at home to use with this printer. I use a wireless router at home. The setup was simple, i had to just load the s/w on the laptops and then configure the printer to my wireless router home network. Thats it, its up and running.
Pros : ease of setup, print quality, boot up time, intelligent software.
I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a good and cheap printer+copier+scanner.

Save yourself some money, buy this laser printer!
I rarely print documents at home. Using my old inkjet printer, every time we needed to print something the ink cartridge was dried out. As a result, we probably paid an average of $2 per printed sheet with our old inkjet printer (not to mention the hassle of having to buy an ink cartridge every time we wanted to print something).
Laser printer cartridges don't dry out... hence the major increase in savings for me. This printer / scanner / copier has been very user friendly and reliable. Also, the cartridge is unsed in many of the Brother printers, so it appears as though we will not have trouble finding replacements in the years to come.
The only possible con on this is that it is only B&W. However, this is not a problem for me.

The printer connected to the router very quickly. I needed software support to install the software on the first laptop. Once installed it works great. My printing needs are not great but this will save a lot of cash over the inkjet printers. Printing on both sides of a paper is nice and easy.Some reviewers think noise is a problem but I do not agree.

The HL-2280DW is replacing a older HP inkjet printer, because HP ink has gotten just too expensive. It appears that toner cartridges that last as much as 2500 pages will more than half the cost of printing black and white.
Regarding setup: some difficulty at first, but after re-reading the instructions the wireless works on all 4 of my computers (2 windows based and 2 apple based).
I had to download the software that allows scanning direct to the computer for the Apple computers. It was automatically downloaded to the Windows computers. This feature is really quite useful and will be used on a regular basis.
Regarding the printer itself: It is well designed and built. The setup from the printer was straightforward and intuitive.
Really pleased with this printer!

As a grad student, I bought a Brother laser printer last year for myself, and it has served me well. I've printed numerous documents, lecture notes, posters, etc. I bought this one for my sister to take to collage. It is easy to set up, and you begin printing immediately. It does a great job of scanning. There are a few bugs to work out with the software to scan, but other than that you shouldn't have any problems with it. Great buy if ask me!
