The NuScan 1000 Hand Held USB Barcode Scanner from Adesso offers easy one-touch scanning right to your computer. The barcode scanner can be used to input data for greater accuracy than manual input on a keyboard. Simply point the scanner at the barcode, press the trigger button to send the code to the active application as if you used a keyboard. The scan button is positioned for easy one-handed operation. The scanner is perfect for retail, libraries, and medical facilities.
The scanner can read most bar code types, including:

Four Different Scan Modes
- Trigger Mode
- The scanner becomes inactive as soon as the data is transmitted. It must be triggered to become active again
- Auto Scan Mode
- The scanner is still active after the data is transmitted, but the successive transmission of the same bar code is not allowed when the trigger switch is pressed again
- Alternate Mode
- Scanner lights up when pressing the scanner trigger switch once. Then, the scanner will turn off for the next pressing
- Repeat Mode
- This mode is similar to Auto Scan mode, but duplicate reading of the same barcode is prohibited if the scanner switch is pressed

We recently distributed 1800 laptops at my company and we used the barcode scanner to read serial numbers off the boxes and off student ID cards. The scanner performed as expected for what we paid for it. It have one glaring shortcoming though. What ever we were scanning needed to be so close to the scanner it was almost touching. In other words you couldn't scan something further than 1/4 inch away. Also the scanner had to be held a certain angle to be effective.
