The Hitachi 3 TB 3.5" Ultrastar 7K3000 Enterprise Hard Drive has a storage capacity of 3TB, the fifth-generation Hitachi 5-platter mechanical design, and offers a rotational speed of 7200 RPM at 2.0 million hours MTBF for capacity-optimized environments. DSA (dual stage actuator) and enhanced RVS (rotational vibration safeguard) offer robust performance in multi-drive operations.
Supporting 6 GB/s SATA models that provide flexibility, the 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive is compatible with systems that use SATA hard drives (up to 2.19 TB). It is used in decision support and RAID, disk-to-disk backup and archiving, and RAID array applications, and can be used in cloud storage, network attached storage, and data warehousing and mining environments.

Comments about Hitachi 3 TB 3.5" Ultrastar 7K3000 Enterprise Hard Drive:
Purchases to replace small high-performance SAS drives so we could have reliability and large storage. When a forth drive arrives, I'll be migrating to raid-6, but currently running as raid-5 and doing a beautiful job. They are quiet, run at low temps, and offer plenty of storage. If the extra price also brings Hitachi's known reliability, I'll be a very happy camper.
Right now, I'm planning on buying another set of four in the few months, so obviously I'm liking them.
Hitachi offers these same drives with a SAS interface instead of SATA, but that also comes with a much higher price. With only a few people using them at the same time, you'll never notice the difference.
While no amount of reliability is ever a substitute for backups, I frankly never want to call on my backups if I don't absolutely have to.
