The JMR ELECTRONICS 16TB BlueStor SAS Expander With Drives And No RAID Controller is a high-capacity JBOD storage system featuring 16 hot-swappable SAS / SATA 3.0 Gb/s disk drive bays. In this configuration, the system comes equipped with 16x 1.0 TB 3.0 Gb/s SATA hard drives for a total of 16 TB data storage capacity. The Expander also delivers up to 1700 MB/s data transfer speeds. The system features a single backplane design. Fully redundant power and cooling are provided via hot-swappable modules.

Utilizing no cables in the data path and featuring vertically installed disk drives, the Expander delivers superior performance and signal integrity, with cooler operating disk drives, over many competitive products. The disk canisters are uniquely engineered, lightweight, inexpensive resin that minimizes drive vibration while offering superb air flow. Each canister has an integrated light pipe, latching handle and modular EMI shield for elegant simplicity.

The Expander boasts dual 4x SAS ports for host connectivity and concatenation to extra storage units via inexpensive, multilane SAS cables. It works with virtually every SAS and SATA II (3.5" (8.9 cm) form factor) disk drive on the market today, and is also compatible with a long list of host adapters and SAS RAID controllers. This SES 2.0 compliant system also has a unique Physical User Interface featuring real-time disk activity / failure status indicators, as well as visible and audible alarms for power or cooling system failures. More user-friendly than your average Enterprise-class hardware, the BlueStor SAS Expander 3U rackmount system features front-panel "on-off" and "alarm reset" switches.

The Expander is field-upgradable to the unique, patented PeSAN direct-attached PCI storage RAID system via simple replacement of a single plug-in module. The SAS Expander and PeSAN 3U rackmounts utilize interchangeable FRUs for simple expandability and reduced spares cost. An optional configuration with an additional SAS expander (not included) offers improved performance, yielding up to 1.2 GB/s data throughput rates for the most demanding applications.

In lieu of the included SATA II hard drives, you may elect to use optional SAS drives (not included). In higher performance environments, using SAS disk drives provides maximum bandwidth and I/O for data intensive applications. However, if cost is a chief concern or the use of secondary storage is required for Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), nearline storage, Content Addressable Storage (CAS), or disk-to-disk back-up deployments, the more cost-effective SATA II drives are recommended to dramatically reduce subsystem cost and TCO. The SAS Expander also enables the intermixing of SAS and SATA disk drives within a single enclosure for unrivaled configuration versatility.
