JMR ELECTRONICS 32TB BlueStor PeSAN X8 Expander Dual BP RAID/ Controller/ Drives

The JMR ELECTRONICS 32TB BlueStor PeSAN X8 Expander Dual BP RAID/ Controller/ Drives is a 16-bay, external PCIe RAID storage enclosure. It comes equipped with 16x 2.0 TB hot-swappable SATA II 3.0 Gb/s 7200 rpm hard drives, a RAID controller and a 6.6' (2.0 m) external PCIe X8 cable. It boasts 32 TB of data storage capacity and up to 1700 MB/s transfer rates. The first direct-attached PCI storage system on the market, BlueStor with PeSAN alters the way large storage arrays are scaled. Utilizing disruptive technology covered by U.S. Patent 7,000,037, PeSAN technology is the culmination of half a decade of active development, and is now capable of being simply deployed with this server.

The PeSAN 3U rackmount storage shelf is a self-contained RAID subsystem employing an internal high-performance, affordable SAS RAID controller that gets inserted directly into the BlueStor PCIe slot in a removable I-O module. Utilizing 16 disk drives yields IOPS of greater than 1.0 GB/s when connected to a host PCIe X8 slot.

The BlueStor PeSAN can be expanded to 256 PCIe devices (4,096 disk drives) with no performance degradation via BlueStor PCIe Switches. The system employs lightweight, cost-effective, sophisticated resin disk canisters with integrated light pipes, latching handles and EMI shields, all of which are interchangeable with other BlueStor units for simple maintenance and reduced spares cost. All FRUs, including the hot-swappable blower modules and power supplies, can be interchanged with the BlueStor 16-bay SAS Expander, and any SAS Expander is field-upgradable to PeSAN via replacement of one plug-in module.

As an alternative to the included SATA II drives, you can connect optional SAS drives (not included) to the PeSAN RAID system. SAS drives offer maximum bandwidth and I/O for data intensive applications in higher performance environments, while SATA drives are more cost-effective and work better if the use of secondary storage is needed for the following applications: Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), nearline storage, Content Addressable Storage (CAS), or disk-to-disk back-up deployments. The system also offers support for intermixing SAS and SATA disk drives within the enclosure, for superb configuration versatility.
