The Apex Mini Bean Bag - Realtree Max4 from LensCoat is a versatile, solid support for a camera, especially one mounted on a gimbal or ball head. Designed for DSLR cameras with lenses smaller than 500mm, the Mini Bean Bag has a U-shape that makes it perfect for mounting on any narrow or round surface, such as a fence, a car door, or a tree branch. Inside the "U" is a high-tack surface that keeps it from slipping.
The Mini Bean Bag features an easily accessible fill zipper that allows you to customize the amount of filling that's inside the bag. A weather-resistant flap protects the zipper. At 5.5 lb it's less than half the size of its bigger sibling, the Apex Bean Bag, yet it's still heavy enough to provide plenty of stability.
Inside the bag there's not only filling but an aircraft-grade aluminum plate that, with its 1/2"-long 3/8"-16 screw, supports the attachment of a head. (Each plate is hand-made in the U.S. with the help of a 100,000 lb press.) The plate is removable, so you can use the Mini Bean Bag as a traditional, soft bean bag support.
You can also invert the Mini Bean Bag to nestle a telephoto lens into the "U" portion, which provides non-slip support. This is perfect for shooting from a flat surface such as a car hood or the ground.

I finally found product that I can use to mount my own tripod head, 600mm lens and camera body, on the door frame of my car window and shoot video as well as still images. Taking wildlife photograph and getting publishable images just got a lot easier.

I got this bean-bag mount so that I could photograph wildlife from my truck more easily than using a monopod wedged between door and seat. I use it to support a 7D (with grip) and a 400 F5.6L lens. It does a great job and works as described. I've been getting some tack-sharp images since using it! It does take a lot of beans to fill so make sure you buy plenty (I had to make two trips to the store because I didn't buy enough the first time).

I use the Apex beanbag while taking shots of birds and other wildlife. It's so easy to use, just open a car/SUV window and straddle the window sill and place your camera atop and shoot. For longer lenses I use it with a ball head.
