  • Solo Strings I Extended - Vienna Instruments

Vienna Instruments - Solo Strings I Extended from Vienna Symphonic provides additional articulations and samples to the Solo Strings I virtual instrument (Standard Library required). Featuring the Violin, Viola, Violoncello and Double Bass, and performed by 4 soloists with many years of international concert work, the library provides instruments that are sensitive and clear, exact and homogeneous, technically perfect and utterly convincing in their musicality.

Apart from the entire sample library of the Horizon Series' Solo Strings Edition, this instrument contains many additional articulations. "Zigane," the leisurely "smeared" portamentos, are particularly impressive as Interval Performances using the enhanced audio engine's algorithms. Other articulations are the fast Interval Performances using legato, marcato and spiccato techniques.

"Harsh" articulations are played with an especially raw, almost brutal attack and are available as superbly effective Interval and Repetition Performances. Furthermore, there are special Performance Trills, repetitions in spiccato and ricochet articulations, sustains with fading vibrato, ponticello, sul tasto and numerous natural and artificial harmonics.

The Vienna Instruments user interface is clearly arranged and includes pre-configured patches for immediate playability with no learning curve. The interface uses a powerful proprietary streaming audio engine that can load up to 3,456 articulations (patches) on one MIDI channel.

Load times are extremely low and 64 stereo voices per instance can stream from the hard disc. A RAM optimizing utilities clears unused samples out of RAM. Users can easily create their own instruments, using "drag and drop" functionality, and the instrument provides the ability for velocity crossfades and release control to be switched on or off in real time.

Note: Software requires a ViennaKey USB protection device if one is not already on the system.

    Requires Standard Library.

    Includes almost 77,000 samples

  • Chamber Strings II Extended - Vienna Instruments

Chamber Strings II Extended from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Chamber Strings II virtual instrument Standard Library (required). Featuring a Violin Ensemble (6 players,) Viola Ensemble (4 players,) Violoncello Ensemble (3 players) and Double bass Ensemble (2 players), the library includes many of the techniques from Chamber Strings I but also includes selections played "con sordino" (with mutes) that lend themselves well to soft, intimate arrangements.

The small string ensembles present a full instrumental range, rich in nuances. With the help of enhanced performance algorithms, the ensembles' liveliness unfolds while playing these instruments. Tender or expressive, quiet or dynamic, light or energetic, the Chamber Strings exude their flair in intimate arrangements, either in chamber music compositions, or in divided string groups.

Large string ensembles combined with the Chamber Strings are enhanced by additional nuances and a wealth of variants. Apart from the entire sample library of the Horizon Series' Chamber Strings Edition, the instruments contains short and sustained notes, crescendos and diminuendos, but also includes Vienna's unique Interval Performances, including legato, portamento, and trill performances.

  • Orchestral Strings I Extended - Vienna Instruments

Orchestral Strings I Extended from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Orchestral Strings I virtual instrument Standard Library (required) and features a Violin Ensemble (14 players) and a Viola Ensemble (10 players). The violinists were headed by Christian Eisenberger, who has collaborated with artists and conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Martha Argerich, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Herbert von Karajan, Gidon Kremer, Kent Nagano, Roger Norrington, Murray Perahia, Andras Schiff, Georg Solti and many others. The viola ensemble was headed by Anett Homoki who is a member of the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic as well as of the Volksoper Vienna.

The string sections of the Vienna Instruments offer an extremely wide range of articulations. The special qualities of this instrument are a result of the multitude of performances it contains. With larger ensembles, the random effect of articulations like Performance Trills or fast Legatos is especially pronounced, lending those patches remarkable authenticity. The larger the ensemble, the more intense the random effect, that is the natural "inexactitude" among the musicians when changing from one tone to the next. This randomization gets extra attention with the "Repetition Performance Pizzicatos" only available with the large string ensembles recorded in two different tempos.

Additional samples are also included like short staccatos, expressive Interval Legatos, espressivo con sordino, as well as extensions of the tonal ranges for sustains and staccatos. The Vienna Instruments user interface is clearly arranged and includes pre-configured patches for immediate playability with no learning curve. The interface uses a powerful proprietary streaming audio engine that can load up to 3,456 articulations (patches) on one MIDI channel.

Load times are extremely low and sixty-four stereo voices per instance can stream from the hard disc. A RAM optimizing utilities clears unused samples out of RAM. Users can easily create their own instruments, using "drag and drop" functionality, and the instrument provides the ability for velocity crossfades and release control to be switched on or off in real time.

  • Orchestral Strings II Extended - Vienna Instruments

Orchestral Strings II Extended from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Orchestral Strings II virtual instrument Standard Library (required). The instrument features a Cello Ensemble (8 players) and Bass Ensemble (6 players.) The leading voices of the two string sections are Argentinian Rubén Dubrovsky, founder of the Vienna Bach Consort and Martin Deuring, an internationally active solo bassist and founding member of the chamber music ensemble "Ensemble Plus."

The articulations of the Cello and Double Bass Ensembles correspond to those of the Vienna Instruments Orchestral Strings I. Playing styles includes fast Interval Performances in legato, marcato and spiccato styles, Performance Trills, "harsh," spiccato and pizzicato Repetition Performances, plus artificial harmonics as well as various ponticello articulations, that is, tones played near the bridge.

Both ensembles' tonal ranges are extended with the Cellos' staccatos and sustains now extending up to A5 and the Double Basses up to G4.

The Vienna Instruments user interface is clearly arranged and includes pre-configured patches for immediate playability with no learning curve. The interface uses a powerful proprietary streaming audio engine that can load up to 3,456 articulations (patches) on one MIDI channel.

  • Harps Extended - Vienna Instruments

Harps Extended from Vienna Symphonic Library includes additional articulations and samples for the Harp virtual instrument Standard Library (required). The entire instrument provides the ability to write orchestral music from the mid-19th century that requires the use of two harps.

Harp 1, played by Ruth Rojahn, includes normal, muted, harmonics and bisbigliando single notes and medium speed major, diminished, pentatonic and whole tone glissandi. The controller structure of the library provides extremely flexible and quick access to various controls, allowing the user to switch between ranges, different tempos, up and down movements and different scales in real-time while playing.

The second harp, played by Julia Reth, contains an even larger number of single notes, also offering playing styles like damped, fingernail playing and pedal glissandos. A lovely ethereal effect is created by the bisbigliando variations, the whispering of tender tremolos on two strings playing the same note.

The Vienna Instruments user interface is clearly arranged and includes pre-configured patches for immediate playability with no learning curve. The interface uses a powerful proprietary streaming audio engine that can load up to 3,456 articulations (patches) on one MIDI channel.

The complete sample-based virtual instrument extends the scope of the woodwind family with several rare instrument additions.

The base flute adds a velvety, earthy sound, and expands the flute family to its lowest register. Two oboes also extend the range of the oboe family. The collection features two additions to the clarinet family, the full sounding basset horn that covers the alto/tenor registers, and the deep sounding contrabass clarinet.

A RAM optimizing utility clears unused samples out of RAM. Users can easily create their own instruments, using "drag and drop" functionality, and the instrument provides the ability for velocity crossfades and release control to be switched on or off in real time.

  • Saxophones Extended - Vienna Instruments

Saxophones Extended from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Saxophones virtual instrument Standard Library (required). This collection, along with the Standard Library, offers the complete saxophones family with a focus directed equally to orchestral settings as well as to jazz.

Famous examples of orchestral works using these instruments include the saxophone quartet by Alexander Glasunow, the alto saxophone concerts by Glasunow and Debussy, and the Castello from Mussorgsky's Pictures. In addition, a host of articulations for jazz and big band are included, such as bends, tongue slaps, growling, screams, extended harmonics, key sounds, and more. Long and short downward ending phrases triggered as release samples have been added for heightened realism and the breathy tones stem from the legendary "Barfly sessions" at the Silent Stage.

  • Brass I Extended - Vienna Instruments

Brass I Extended from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Brass I virtual instrument Standard Library (required). The sample-based virtual instrument features the basic brass instruments of the orchestra, both as solo instruments and the corresponding ensembles. These include the Trumpet, Viennese Horn, Tenor Trombone, Tuba, Trumpet Ensemble (3 players,) Horn Ensemble (4 players) and Trombone Ensemble (3 players.)

The four original performers are masters of their trade. Trumpet player Freddy Staudigl, Horn player Marcus Schmidinger and Trombone player Johann Schodl are not only founding members of the renowned ensemble "Brassissimo," but are also active as soloists and orchestral musicians on an international level. The Tuba player Christoph Kiene is also internationally known as a lecturer.

Apart from the usual articulations, this Vienna Instruments Collection also provides fast Interval Performances in legato and marcato, Performance Trills, arpeggios (major, minor and diminished in legato and staccato) and mordents. Trumpet and trombone offer the complete muted playing techniques, not only as solo instruments but also in the ensembles.

Another specialty is the trumpet ensemble's "out of tune" sustains, as they occasionally happen in real orchestral situations. The three trumpet players don't hit the note exactly at the beginning of a part and a beat frequency ensues which is corrected as the tone progresses, eventually resulting in a clean homophony. The trumpets also feature "rips and falls."

The trombone ensembles also offer a specialty. Clusters of three notes with half tone intervals are available in staccato (two variations,) sustained, crescendo and diminuendo (in two tone lengths,) sforzato, and even as Repetition Performances.

  • Brass II Extended - Vienna Instruments

Brass II Extended from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Brass II virtual instrument Standard Library (required). The sample-based virtual instrument contains the instruments needed for large-scale orchestral arrangements such as those required by a Wagnerian score for example. Oriented toward Wagner's Ring Cycle, the collection includes the bass trumpet, the contrabass trombone, Wagner tuba and contrabass tuba, all with the standard single note and Performance articulations like Interval Performances, Repetitions and Performance Trills, etc.

As an alternative to the Viennese horn, Brass II contains a new solo horn, the triple horn, Yamaha's master instrument in F/B♭/high F, recorded down to the lowest register (A1.) Also included are the piccolo trumpet, cimbasso, and the "Epic Horns" from the Horizon Series, an impressive sounding body of eight double horns that not only fulfills the sonic ideal of the theatrical late Romantic orchestra, but also meets the challenge of "larger than life" scores for modern cinema.

The Vienna Instruments user interface is clearly arranged and includes pre-configured patches for immediate playability with no learning curve. The interface uses a powerful proprietary streaming audio engine that can load up to 3,456 articulations (patches) on one MIDI channel.

  • Elements Extended - Vienna Instruments

Elements Extended from the Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Elements virtual instrument Standard Library (required), with the complete sample-based virtual instrument delivering unique sounds that can be used for original sound production. This collection is a sequel to the Horizon Series Library "Glass and Stones" and can be sub-titled as "Water, Metal, Glass and Stone."

With a diameter of fourteen inches, the bass waterphone used for this collection was considerably larger than the one used in the original Vienna Symphonic Library's percussion editions. An extra large tam-tam, with a diameter of more than sixty-five inches, was struck with metal rods, cardboard, jigsaw blades and rubbed with chains, amongst other techniques. The bottles in the collection were blown with articulations such as sustains and flutter tonguing.
