The 3TB My Book for Mac External Hard Drive from Western Digital is a desktop hard drive with a standard USB 2.0 interface and an illuminated capacity gauge that gives you a visual indication of how much space is available on the disk.
Designed for use with Mac OS X systems, the drive is preformatted with the HFS+ file system. It is compatible with Time Machine, allowing you to use it as an external backup drive. It includes the WD SmartWare software suite, and uses a WD GreenPower drive for reduced energy consumption.

I am currently using the Western Digital 3T external hard drive for storing photos, home movies, music, and other documents that I want stored securely off of my main computer. One of the greatest things about this device is how user friendly it is to set up and use right out of the box. The software that is included with it blended seamlessly with my Mac Book Pro and my Mac tower. One of the other nice things about this device is the fact that it does not take up very much space on your desktop and is small enough to be easily transported to and from work. One of the draw backs is that it does not come with a physical user's manual. Even though the device and software are fairly intuitive to use there are inevitably questions that I would like answered in a manual. However, if lack of a users manual is what would hold you back from this device then you are going to miss out on a very user friendly system.

I plug it in, and it works. I own a half dozen of these, and I've only ever had an issue once in the 10 years I've been using these hard drives. WD was able to replace it quickly when I had that one problem, and I haven't had any problems with the replacement or any of my other hard drives since.

Plugged it right into my Mac Pro from 2007, worked great. Back to the ol' USB cable, which is slower, but a lot more common. I still like having a hard copy of the instructions, which this does not come with (the instructions are all within the hard drive) Pretty good price for that much storage.
