The Aiptek AHD Z7 1080P HD Camcorder captures a powerful selection of high-definition video formats with its 5x optical zoom lens. Feature-packed for the price, the AHD Z7 has an HDMI output (for both PAL and NTSC television systems), an SD/SDHC card slot that accepts capacities up to 32 GB, a still image mode that captures enhanced resolutions up to 12 Mp, and an input for a stereo microphone. All told, it's a compact, affordable go-to camera for capturing high-quality video and digital photos.
With its high-definition (2592 x 1944) CMOS sensor, the AHD Z7 is able to capture HD video at both 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 720 resolutions. At full-HD 1080p, the frame rate is 30fps; at 720p, the frame rate can be as high as 60 frames per second – perfect for fast action such as sports.
To conserve card space, the camcorder also records WVGA (848 x 480) and QVGA (320 x 240) resolutions. All video is recorded via high-quality H.264 compression as MOV files, which results in easy compatibility for Mac users. (PC users simply need a recent version of QuickTime installed on their machines.)
Video is transferred from the camcorder to your computer via the supplied USB 2.0 cable. (The camera includes embedded software for editing video.) The USB port also supplies power to the camcorder – via a wall plug with the included AC adapter, or via a powered USB port on a computer. The USB port is also used to recharge the included NP-60 Lithium-ion battery.

I use Mac so the .mov. capability was a big consideration in this purchase. iMovie handles the files fine but Final Cut Express 4 couldn't recognize the file format.
This is my first HD camcorder so it's been fun to experiment with the different resolutions. The picture quality looks good for a low cost unit.
The disappointing side of the unit is the sound. Even though it records at 48k it only records frequencies above around 300hz. In other words there is no low end on the files.

It is quite good for kids-teenagers, for training shooting, or for operative movie good quality on the good lighting. One of advantages is optical zoom.

Light and easy to use, not very good on low light and the still photo works well only wit a good amount of light or at low resolution. Annoying bright blue light stay on all time, I had to cover it with tape.
Overall ok for the value,I wish had a wider lens.

I bought this camera because of the "Low Light Sensitivity." This is a great little camera for outdoors/brighter light, but the "Low Light Sensitivity" is not good. I took some great out-doors footage in sun light and some clouds, but my indoor video was useless! If you are using this camera indoors, make sure you have enough lights on. If you are not shooting in dim light, the camera should work well for you. I only gave two stars because this camera is advertised as being good in low light, but it did not work well for me in low light.
