Comments about Sony VAIO Z2 VPCZ214GX/L 13.1" Notebook Computer (Blue):
I got this for professional use to analyze large laboratory datafiles, perform data analysis, and do word processing that includes large images. This machine excels at all of these in a very portable package. So far the vivid display, superfast processor and solid state drives have all performed well. The easy-to-use external ports, especially the ability to directly drive a projector when lecturing were a reason I preferred this to Macbook Air. Obviously, it is expensive, but the features, performance and, above all, light weight are what you pay for.
The lack of an internal optical drive is a compromise I was willing to accept to reduce weight. The illuminated keyboard is nice, but it dims after a short time and, to relight it, you have to find and touch a key. Also, in the dark, the left and right buttons on the mouse pad are not lit or well differentiated by feel, which slows use. Stylistically, it's beautiful, although I wish the front corners were a bit more rounded.
