Ikelite DS161 Movie Substrobe Ball Arm Package

The Ikelite DS161 Movie Substrobe Ball Arm Package includes a DS161 Movie Substrobe, a #4086.61 SA-100 Arm and a Fiber Optic Adapter. It enables easy strobe placement from macro close-up to wide angle without changing the aim of the EV Controller (if used), which can operate as a wireless sensor triggered by another flash or may be connected by optional sync cord. Ikelite TTL Sync Cords connect Ikelite Substrobes to Ikelite housings that feature a bulkhead connector. The Fiber Optic Adapter converts the electrical bulkhead of any Ikelite DS Substrobe into a fiber optic port. The adapter is to be used with compatible non-Ikelite fiber optic cables and housings, as these cables are not available from Ikelite.

The DS161 Movie Substrobe includes a rechargeable NiMH battery pack and diffuser, as well as a 1.5 hour Smart Charger and standard mount with through-bolt. This strobe combines all of the functionality of the DS-160 with a powerful 500 lumen LED video light. The DS-161 provides strobe light for freezing action and bringing back the color in stills, and the daylight-balanced LED video light restores natural color to your video. The strobe is compatible with all Ikelite TTL digital camera systems and will work with older TTL film cameras like the Nikonos system. A variety of sync cords, sensors, and TTL adapters are available to connect to almost any camera system on the market. The DS-161 features special electronic circuitry allowing use with preflash metering as well as all non-preflash metering systems.

The strobe offers 160 watt/seconds of power and a coverage angle of 90°, 100° with a diffuser. It recycles almost instantaneously when fired at a fraction of its full power, whether in TTL or manual mode. At full power, you still get an incredible 1.5 second recycle time. Use a compatible TTL system and enjoy perfect automatic exposure, as well as an increased number of flashes per full charge. In manual mode, the DS-161 offers 10 power settings in half-stop increments for precise control over exposure. The strobe is depth rated to 300' (91 m).

The 15W video light has 3 super-bright LEDs that are arranged behind a special optical element to provide a 45° angle of coverage free of hot spots. The light produces 500 lumens of daylight-balanced light that will bring out true, natural colors with or without the use of a color-correcting filter. Custom circuitry and highly efficient drivers provide 5 hr of continuous burn time on a fully charged battery with no waning effects. Continuous use of the light at full power reduces the number of full power flashes by less than 15%.

With the strobe set to the "Batt w/Lite" position, the movie light is adjustable between 100% and 50% power in 10 fractional power settings. An "SOS" mode emits the universal signal for help in an emergency situation. With the strobe set to the "On w/Lite" position, the movie light doubles as an aiming light for focusing or night diving. The light automatically turns off and back on when the strobe fires so there is no effect on your photos.

The smart charger with USA, Euro, UK and Australian plugs features negative delta-v pulse charge technology to provide more complete charging while keeping the batteries cool for longer battery life. It also conditions the cells and usually provides more flashes per charge. Auto-ranging input allows the charger to operate anywhere with a 100-240 volt supply, making it ideal for the traveling diver. The charger is also less likely to fail when used with poorly regulated power sources. 2 LED indicators show continuity and state of charge. The battery takes 1.5 hours to charge with the Ikelite smart charger. When fully charged, the battery is good for 250 full flashes.

The #4086.61 SA-100 Ball Arm System provides full strobe aim with 2 clamps and a 6.0" (15 cm) extension. The overall extended length is 14.0" (34.5 cm). This system has a 1.0" (2.5 cm) diameter ball joint and gives you complete lighting control for macro and wide-angle photography.

The Fiber Optic Adapter works with all Ikelite DS substrobes and is compatible with both pre-flash and non pre-flash modes. It requires a fiber optic cable (sold separately), as well as a compatible camera and a housing allowing use of the camera's built-in flash. The adapter is depth rated to 300' (90 m).
