Comments about HP / Hewlett Packard Pavilion dv7-6165us 17.3" Notebook Computer (Steel Gray Brushed Aluminum):
I use this laptop as a desktop replacement, which mostly entails internet tasks that aren't terribly taxing for the CPU, but it does also get used for occasional gaming and photo editing with Lightroom 3. I also use this laptop as a display tool to show photos to clients during proofing sessions. For proofing sessions, the 17 inch screen is great for showing photos large enough to be appreciated and the extra-long battery life keeps me from stressing out about finding an outlet to keep the laptop running. It's also a very quiet machine. I can't think of what the fan sounds like, because its never been loud enough to grab my attention. It does have a touchpad that supports multi-touch gestures, but it could be a bit more responsive. That may be something I can fix by adjusting a setting, but it hasn't been frustrating enough to make me want to find out. As far as features that I would like to have, but aren't present; I think a blu-ray drive would be nice, but as I don't own any blu-ray disks that's only a half issue, and it's likely that HP does/will have a blu-ray drive available that I could swap in if necessary.
I do know that this laptop has space for an extra hard disk, but I don't know if there's any support for RAID and I haven't found any data on HP's website one way or the other.

Use at home for internet, office, photo editing and video. The large screen is fantastic. Stylish look is very nice. Battery runtime is many hours.
Most anoing is the touch pad, which works great as a touch pad but really is in the way when writing (it can easily be turned off, but that isn't really what you want, because for every small mouse click you first need to turn it on again). Mechanical build quality is ok: Materials used (brushed metal finish) are nice, but build precision is only moderate. Processor speed is ok, although honestly I was dissapointed; it appears to be only somewhat faster that my 8 year old pc but not 10x faster.

Comments about HP / Hewlett Packard Pavilion dv7-6165us 17.3" Notebook Computer (Steel Gray Brushed Aluminum):
I love the computer, especially the speed and ease of use. The only thing I am having a problem with are the wires. The wires do not hookup in the back of the computer like all my previous computers. They have to hookup on both sides and get tangled up everytime I move the laptop. I did not realize they came like that or I would have made sure I bought a computer with the hookup in the back. Other than that I am very happy with it.

Comments about HP / Hewlett Packard Pavilion dv7-6165us 17.3" Notebook Computer (Steel Gray Brushed Aluminum):
I bought this computer with few things in mind, a little playing, studies, watching HD movies and all day use laptop. I love the way the laptop looks and feels, it has an awesome finish, it's good from every angle, Beats audio is excellent and sounds awesome, fingerprint sensor works great on logging in windows, but not to manage passwords for internet logging sites with firefox, only with internet explorer, maybe an update should fix that, touchpad is responsive, keyboard is good, but i should have preferred the one of the envy, which is illuminated, the webcam works good on good light, perfomance is slightly reduced when on low light conditions. I installed Test Drive 2 Unlimited and Alice: Madness Returns to test the gaming part, and i must say im dissatisfied, The games have to be on the lowest graphics setting to work good, not awesome, even with crossfire or using the High Performance graphics processor, LED screen is great, has nice contrast, everything looks good on it, HD videos play beautifully, it doesnt included a Bluray player thought, I put one I had here to test it. Battery life is awesome on this computer, considering it's size, type of processor and accent lighting it has, i can pass a full day on college with normal use, playing it last like a few hours in my experience, i was able to watch like 3 movies of 1 hour and 45 minutes each. I'm used to carry around 17.3" laptop so take this with a grain of salt if you mind but i find this laptop to be pretty much lightweight compared with my older 17 inchers. It has USB 3.0 which provided me decent transfer speeds with a 3.0 external hard drive. The 4 stars come because HP removed the remote control their laptops used to bring, it was kinda dissapointing, now with blurays and stuff that should have been awesome, and for the performancevof the video card, which performs average for me. Dont get me wrong if you like to play flash/online games and "arcade" games, emulators, cheap games like the one the computer comes with (ricochet, super granny or games from gamehouse, wild tangent) they are gonna run perfect, but console games like Dead island, Vanquish, and so on well, not too good. So my verdict is: If you are someone looking for a powerful computer for a great price this is the one to go, just a bluray player and you are good to go. It's got powerful processing power with great battery life in a laptop, more than an average person will need for years...

I bought the notebook one month ago and was extremely satisfied with it. The computer was really quiet and had a very good graphic performance as well as audio performance. But 3 days ago it simply shutted down without any reason and a blue screen appeared and the computer turned off. Then, when I restarted the computer, Windows advised me that there was a problem with the graphics card and it needed to be reinstalled or repaired (something like that). Ok! So, I reinstalled the AMD software hopping everything would be fine and restarted Windows to apply the changes. The problem persisted and from this day on it is was getting worse and worse. Now, the computer starts when it wants to, it hardly boots and, when it happens, it stays on for a short time the shuts down again and I have to pray for it to turn on. Looks like the display adapter is about to die. [...] Now I have to keep a computer that will not trust any more!I just wish the computer had last longer, cause while it worked I was really happy with it.HP's? ANY MORE!
