Buffalo MediaStation 8x Portable DVD Drive with LED Power Indicator
The MediaStation 8x Portable DVD Drive with LED Power Indicator from Buffalo is an affordable, portable DVD burner, ideal for use with laptop or notebook computers. It has two built-in USB cables that snap to the chassis for easy mobility. You can power the drive using one or both of these cables, depending on how much power you need. The compact drive can read and burn DVD discs at up to 8x speeds and can read and burn CD discs at up to 24x speeds. To note, it can write to dual-layer DVD discs up to 6x speeds and DVD-RAM discs up to 5x speeds.

I bought this product after my laptops ailing cd/dvd rw drive had died a slow and painful death of occasional functionality. Irritatingly this USB mediastation replacement had similar behavior from day 1. Today I was trying to rip CDs that I had piled up from the afformentioned "no optical drive" era and it made it through the first two with ease, followed by refusing any of the remaining four. Attempting to read them and failing dozens of times each while my car's CD player punped them all out with ease. It eventually reached the point it wouldn't read any cd I put in it, even those it had successful played at the beginning of the night. Terrible. Buy something else.
