I bought this flash unit to use with sel18200 lens. It was really annoying to use 18200 with standart flash due to lens shadow on the pictures. Now it is really fun to take photos. The bounce function really great for indoors also tele option helpfull for outdoors. The only negative feedback may be its size because it is hard to fit the camera at the same bag that you use before with the flash mounted. Since I am using it with 18200 lens size not a problem for me. Mount port is really firm. I definetly suggest this to my friends.

It is a nice upgrade from HVL-F7 flash. Moderate power, but not enough to fill a big room or bounce off a high ceiling. 2 diffusers are provided; 1 is inbuilt and 1 is external. Both works fine. Too many restrictions on the usage, as it allows either straight or 75 degrees up. So we have to adjust ourself to get proper bounce.

at first i have no intention of buying this external flash coz my nex5n is great in lowlight and im thinkin putting this flash on my nex would make my camera awkward lookin...but readin the good reviews on this flash on how it would make the quality of my images to a whole level and also b&h had this on sale last 1st week of May so i decided to order...well as of now i very pleased w/ its performance and i have no complaints except that sometimes i really have to push it down and securely fasten the screw..it took me 4 tries before the camera recognize d flash and also i have to remove the flash if i have to put back the camera on my carrying case...but overall im glad that i bought this external flash it really do perform great making my images amazingly much clearer.

If you read the short summery of the product, you get all the info you need. Work's as well as it can, not worse, not better, your are getting what you paid for. All & all I am happy with my hvl-f2os external flash.

This unit is small enough to make sense with the nex series cameras but yet powerful enough in most indoor situations. Bounce feature works well even with typical cathedral cielings in most homes. Direct flash is a bit overpowering even with diffuser, corrected with flash compensation in camera.

I had read a lot of great reviews of this product, so I was pretty confident that it would be a good acquisition. But I am so impressed with the quality of the photos I've taken with it. On "bounce" mode, it casts such a beautiful light. It's almost studio-quality, under the right conditions. I'm so glad I bought this!

Using on the NEX C3. Much better performance than the flash that comes with it. It's a little larger than I expected. It needs to be taken off for the camera to fit in the case I have. The flash is a little overpowering for close shots. Did a before and after compared to the included flash and was quite impressed with the improvement. Would buy again.

I bought the big 55-200 lense which I love but it cast a shadow with the stock flash. The extension was impossible to find and cost about $40. This flash not only makes that problem go away, it does an awsome job both directly for telephoto and bouce for great indoor shots.

I'll definitely reccomend this.

I got tired of lugging my Nikon D300, lenses, and flash around on exotic trips to SE Asia and decided to sell my equipment for the Nex system. I got a 5n and also picked up this flash and several lenses (the 16mm, 18-55 and 55-200). I ownded the Nikon SB600 and loved it. It was great to have wireless flash possibilities and all sorts of great bounce options. But I rarely brought it on travel because of the extra bulk. The HVL-F20S is tiny and has already gotten more use in a month than my SB600 got in a couple years. It's not in the same league as something like the SB-600 but it does what I need a flash to do and it's so little! The snap-on flash diffuser thing for use with wide angle lenses could be a bit better designed. The screwmount is a little weird, too, but that's what you get for it being so dainty. If you set your expectations to realistic you'll be pleased with this thing.

It's the best accessory you can buy for your NEX. The flash's ability to bounce makes whatever lens you use (16mm, zooms or legacy) much more versatile. Right price too.

I've used many professional flashes over the years from both Nikon and Canon and on a NEX body (I use a NEX-5N) this flash works flawlessly. Great output for even a large room which really surprised me. The bounce is seamless and the direct is powerful enough to reach across a large homes living room. What I especially love is the nice precise tight fit. it's not that large even in comparison to the relationship between a full sized flash on a DSLR. I consider this a MUST HAVE upgrade to the supplied flash.

When the flash is pointing up at the ceiling in "bounce" mode it gives a nice soft light without burnout.
I also tried to use a flash to photograph against the sun.
The results in all cases were expected or even exceeded expectations.

Flash output is quite enough for not very large rooms.
This device is very compact and does not take up much space in your bag.

I think this flash will be useful to anyone who shoots with Sony NEX.

Perfect fit for the Nex-5n. More versatile and obviously more powerful than the "kit" flash, even though I have used the "kit"flash with excellent results. Definitely recommend the Sony HVL-F20S flash paired with the Nex-5n. After using the Nex-5n under natural lighting with ISO settings of 1600,3200,6400,the image quality is outstanding.

Took long enough for Sony to come out with an external flash for the NEX, espcecially since the 18-200mm lens didn't ship with a flash extender for the original equipment, and the extender was almost impossible to find. That said, it's a great little unit so far. It does add some size to an otherwise compact system, it's nice to be able to bounce the flash and have a diffuser. So far, I'm enjoying it.
