The Asus O!Play Mini Compact HD, 7.1 Channel Audio Multi-Format Media Player fits in the palm of your hand and is designed to enhance everything from Blu-ray movies and your favorite digital music, to family pictures, subtitle detection and even file sorting and indexing. It's an exciting device, but the O!Play Mini's surprising flexibility, lengthy feature-list and nearly universal format support runs contradictory to its simple, sleek construction and palm-sized design. In fact, it almost requires over-indulgent rhetoric full of metaphor, similes and analogies to accurately articulate the amazing adaptability and advantages afforded by this accommodating and amoeba-like, malleable media player. Feeling the excitement yet? The metaphors and similes work by providing an image of something known to compare and suggest what we should feel about the product. Something like the O!Play Mini Media Player requires creativity, thick rhetoric and hyperbole to express the excitement and flexibility this device can really bring to your home-entertainment system.
Even with some exaggeration, there is still total verity behind the Asus rhetoric, regarding the concept of total adaptability and universal flexibility. In fact, the O!Play Mini Media Player's versatile, vast feature-list, as well as its variety and sheer volume of supported media formats vindicates the Asus claims. Another way to look at this device is as a vessel, leading you, your family and your friends on a virtual voyage from your humdrum, garden-variety living-room entertainment center, to a cinema-quality, larger-than-life home-theater system. This flexible and compact media player supports Blu-ray Disc ISO, MKV, RMVB (1080p), H.264 and DTS-HD MA formats. Plus, Asus outfitted the palm-sized device with Dolby TrueHD, as well as an immersive 7.1 channel high-definition surround sound HD capability. When 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD is paired with the Mini Media Player's Blu-ray 1080p crystal clear format via HDMI, the entire family will experience the uncompressed HD Blu-ray video and lossless surround sound audio, resulting in a thunderous and vivid sensory overload - a feeling straight out of the movie-theater from a device that fits in your pocket.
If you were watching a movie with the O!Play Mini Media Player, then you'd know that as soon as it was over, you can start playing your favorite digital music tracks through the surround sound codec. Plus, the O!Play Mini supports several audio formats including MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC and AIFF file formats - any type can keep the party going with the O!Play Mini. You can even simultaneously entertain your friends and family with a still image slideshow of all your shared memories - directly loaded from your digital camera's memory card. The O!Play Mini Media Player actually affords the flexibility of a 4-in-1 memory card reader. It supports SD, MMC, MS and xD card formats for enhanced adaptability and several image formats including JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF and TIFF for increased versatility and flexibility. As an added bonus, the O!Play Mini Media Player works just like a typical digital photo frame - except it's turning your large-screen HDTV into a unique digital photo frame/album. This adds to the special, right-for-every-situation complete adaptability of the O!Play Mini. Every small feature or additional support adds to the immersive experience.
The O!Play Mini Media Player also supports a plethora of other HD content and it's packed with unique and inclusive features like the Asus Exclusive RightTxT Auto Subtitle Detection for more convenient movie watching of content from all over the world; a flexible and adaptable 4-in-1 SD, MMC, MS and xD card reader for quickly loading your still images; the intuitive Smart Database Manager interface for easy file indexing; and an HDMI output for viewing everything on your HDTV in 1080p full, uncompressed high-definition with lossless audio through the Dolby Digital TrueHD or DTS-HD MA codecs and the O!Play Mini's 7.1 channel surround sound capability. With so many formats supported and an impressive list of flexibility-enhancing features - the palm-sized, simple elegance of the Asus O!Play Mini Media Player could never hurt from some hyperbole and rhetorical angling to spark our imagination as to the true extend and capabilities of this compact device.

Small and compact, looks nice. I returned mine because it is impossibly difficult to use. It's like they built it and sold it without ever testing it.

Comments about ASUS O!Play Mini Compact HD, 7.1 Channel Audio Multi-Format Media Player:
It has a sleek exterior design. Very hip. It seems to do everything advertised, however the interface is clumsy compared to other La Cinema Mini HD (which is the product we ended up choosing to use).

Comments about ASUS O!Play Mini Compact HD, 7.1 Channel Audio Multi-Format Media Player:
I haven't used the O!Play Mini in all of its various modes. No surround sound or blueray capability here. Haven't tried the FLASH card port. I use it only to display home movies and still photos via a projection system, and it seems to do a reasonable job of that.
I can, however, comment on the quality of the Asus documentation, both as supplied with the unit and on their Web site and on their customer service. It's very minimal. For example, to update the FLASH program in the unit, I had to learn by trial and error that the steps required are a) download the current version off their Web site, which is zipped, b) unzip into a default folder embedded in the zipped file (e.g. V.1.1.3) and c) (and this last step wasn't obvious) transfer the two unzipped files in that folder into the root directory of the connected USB device. Without that last step the Mini simply stares at you and claims it can't find any updated firmware. I used a thumb drive, but presumably it would work the same with an outboard USB hard drive.
When I called Asus customer service they could tell me nothing other than that there was "probably something wrong with the Mini" and to return the unit to B&H for replacement. I was skeptical but did as they instructed.
B&H was great, sent me a replacement, expedited with no shipping charge plus pre-paid RMA, and it was only after I discovered the same issue with the replacement that I began to experiment and learned the root directory trick.
Sorry for being so verbose. I'm including all the detail in the hope it will save some future buyer a headache.
So in summary, for the money and with a caveat on the functionality I'm not using, the Mini seems to be a very nice little piece of gear, but don't count on Asus for great documentation or customer service. B&H, as usual, performed flawlessly.
