LaCie's 1TB F.A. Porsche-Designed Desktop Hard Drive is a high-capacity, high-speed external hard drive with a sophisticated, bold look and a thick, protective 3mm aluminum-casing. This drive can store a maximum capacity of 1TB and, using the USB 3.0 interface, can transfer that data at up to 5Gbps. To note, while Mac OS X doesn't natively support USB 3.0, you can add USB 3.0 to your Mac computer by installing LaCie's USB 3.0 Mac driver and a LaCie USB 3.0 computer card. The USB 3.0 interface is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0, so you can connect it to any computers that use this older interface.
Along with the drive, you will receive an online Wuala cloud storage account with 10GB for a year and software that includes Lacie's Public-Private as well as Backup Assistant. With this software, you can easily password protect your drive and manage crucial backups for your computer. For managing your power-settings on the drive, included with the software is also an automatic eco-mode that boasts upwards of 77% energy savings.

Did some heavy research on external hard drives with regards to its portability and this drive has exceeded my expectations thus far. First things first, the aesthetics are on point. Its sleek, hardbody aluminum shell provides ample protection in case of transporting. This is the external hard drive that Doc Brown from Back to the Future would use in the year 2012. The operational light is quietly detailed and works beautifully in operation or sleep mode. The HD does not weigh as heavy as it appears which is beneficial in regards to portability. With regards to hardware, this HD is extremely fast in every sense of that hyperbole. The transfers of data between my computer and the HD are faster than I expected and the set up was pain free. I recommend this HD to any individual looking for an eye pleasing device that can be centrally located in an office or taken for travel needs.

This hard drive fits seamlessly into my workflow as an archival device. I keep it at one computer, so I don't know if it has any transportation issues but it was easy to set up with Time Machine on my Mac and I don't need to think about it unless I need to find an old file that I accidentally deleted or overwrote.

The loaded assistant did not work for my Mac, but I formatted using Apple's journaled Disk Utility, and my backups are working perfectly. The drive is quiet and fast. No complaints.

I just got this about two weeks ago and so far it is working great! It is very quite when it's on, and it does not slow down my computer. I primarily store raw files on here as a back up for my computer. Great product at a great price!

I needed to copy the image file of my entire laptop to an external drive for backup. The LaCie 1TB Porsche copied fast, without a hitch with room to spare. Simple plug and play. Great drive for the price and B&H Photo is amazing with their advice and delivery.

Comments about LaCie 1TB F.A. Porsche Designed Desktop Hard Drive:
I have plenty of photos and videos and my old PC was too slow to cope with all my files. My new PC on the other hand came with USB3, so I decided to buy a USB3 external disk drive. At first I've transferred my files from the old PC to the new hard drive with USB2 and then I put the files to the new PC with USB3. The difference in speed is just amazing. USB 3 is much faster (like 3 times faster!). It was really worthwhile to upgrade.
