LaCie 500GB F.A. Porsche Designed Portable Hard Drive
LaCie's 500GB F.A. Porsche Designed Portable Hard Drive is a small, high-capacity, high-speed external portable hard drive with a sophisticated, bold look and a thick, protective 3mm aluminum-casing. This drive can store a maximum capacity of 500GB and, using the USB 3.0 interface, can transfer that data at up to 5Gbps. To note, while Mac OS X doesn't natively support USB 3.0, you can add USB 3.0 to your Mac computer by installing LaCie's USB 3.0 Mac driver and a LaCie USB 3.0 computer card. The USB 3.0 interface is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0, so you can connect it to any computers that use this older interface.
Along with the drive, you will receive an online Wuala cloud storage account with 10GB for a year and software that includes LaCie's Public-Private as well as Backup Asistant. With this software, you can easily password protect your drive and manage crucial backups for your computer. For managing your power-settings on the drive, included with the software is also an automatic eco-mode that boasts upwards of 40% energy savings.

This hard drive is just great. It's sleek looking, easy to use and very durable. USB 3.0 is a nice bonus, although I do not have it yet, but I'm planning on buying a PCI Express card sometime soon to be able to take the full advantage of the speed. The nice thing is that the drive offers backwards compatibility with USB 2.0. So buying it was a no-brainer decision for me. This drive is great for mobile back up and is very secure thanks to the optional data encryption and password-protection. I'm very happy with my purchase!

The first thing that caught my attention was the design of this drive. It's very solidly built. The enclosure is made of brushed aluminum and looks very stylish, plus it ensures great protection for the disk and doesn't let it overheat. The speed is quite high, the software suite for automatic backup is included. 10GB of free online storage space is a nice bonus.

I love this drive. It's one of the most compact and great looking drives I've ever had. The aluminum casing is very well built. It's sturdy and protects the drive from overheating since it serves as well as a heat sink. The performance is good too. You can't go wrong with this product, in my opinion. Highly recommended!
