The black RS-5 Cargo Ballistic Camera Strap from Black Rapid has been updated to a stronger and more functional design. The RS-5 is now made from ballistic nylon rather than the previous version of ripstop nylon. In addition to its new composition, it features expanded storage and increased organizational design and an improved closure mechanism. This version now contains pockets in which you can store media cards and other accessories such as a smartphone.
The R-Strap is worn diagonally across the torso from shoulder to hip and is adjustable to fit most photographers. The locking FastenR-3 connects the strap to the tripod socket located on either the camera body or the lens. Once connected, the camera hangs upside down, resting securely at the side or in the small of the back, with the lens pointing behind.
The RS-5 Ballistic Strap has a front pocket for carrying a smartphone, large battery, walkie-talkie, or similar sized items. There is a pocket on the top of the pad that opens up to store memory cards, ID, credit cards, etc. The pockets close and open silently thanks to padded magnets

I LOVE this strap! Being almost 60 years old having the RS-5 Ballistic Camera strap truly helps me as I shoot 3 to 4 times a week using my 1D Mark IV with my 70-200 or 100-400 on a monopod (shooting soccer and marching band etc.) and have my 2nd camera/lens using my old Canon strap around my shoulder. Now that I've LEARNED HOW to use the RS-5 Ballistic Camera Strap I won't shoot without it. It took me some time to learn how to adjust the strap (by watching their video-great help)and the first time I used the RS-5 for my 2nd camera/lens was for an all day event; 8 - 10 hours. There was no way with my old strap that I could carry my 2nd camera all day long. Again, I love this strap!!

I would have loved this strap if the cargo portion had been well designed. It wasn't, unfortunately. Awkward is the best word for it. The "cargo" portion of the pad on the strap is a weird hinge design, only permanently attached at the front. The back is held in place (not really so much) by a magnet that is NOT up to the task. It wouldn't stay in place, and when it did, it bunched up to the point that it was almost rubbing the side of my face.
The RS-5 would have been a 5 star strap otherwise. The attachment point is solid, the strap is comfortable, and it works exactly like it should. 2 stars off for the terrible cargo portion, though.
It got returned and replaced by the RS-7, which gets all 5 stars.

I love the way you use this strap. No more pain in the neck cause by other strap. Help to take fast shot whitout always old the camera. I love it. Many room for small stuff. Just one thing you need to know: the place for cell phone is not for large one like Galaxy S. But for me it is not a problem.

Using neck straps all my life I decided to give this a try. It is nice that it takes the camera off my chest and lets it sit at my side. Puts the strain on my shoulder vs my neck. It does take some getting used to but I like it. I might have opted for the RS-4 due to not needing the extra Flip open pocket. But overall nice strap!

Like a lot of others, I questioned the price more than the superior features. I ordered one of the lower price slings from another seller. After a week without having the product shipped, I canceled. I took another look at the RS-5. I realized I was guilty of just looking at the price as if everything else was equal with the other slings.
They were not!! The RS-5 is professional grade equipment. Why am I trying to save $20+ for a sling that wasn't top quality. Saving $20 with a product that wasn't as good to support a $1000+ camera is something I decided against.
I ordered the RS-5 from B&H Photo and received it the next day!!!
Super service!
It is a great product!!!!
Instructions are a little vague. Videos on BlackRapid web site or on You Tube are helpful.
The RS-5 is comfortable and secure!
It should have been my first choice!
It will be next time!

Love this strap. It is a great addition if you use multiple camera or just like to keep your camera out of the way in between shoots. I shoot weddings and to be able to throw this on and go through the day not having to worry if the strap will slide off your shoulder is great.
The addition of the magnetic pouch is great as well, really strong but easy enough to open one handed.

This strap is like a bandoleer for photographers. It holds my cell phone, extra memory cards, lens cloth, some money, and color cards all at my fingertips. More importantly, it keeps my camera down and out of the way when not in use, but still maintains quick access to the camera when you are ready to shoot. The thick padding makes the strap far more comfortable to wear all day that the straps that come with most cameras. Also, with the addition of the FastenR-T1, I can keep my mounting plate attached in case i get into a situation where I have to switch from had held to my monopod or tripod, without having to unscrew one mount and screw in another. It is easily adjustable as well, so if i need to let it hag a little lower or pull it up a bit based on where I am shooting or a change in comfort throughout the day, I can do so in seconds and move on.

I'm using this strap on Canon 7D with 24-105L or 70-300L and external flash on Stroboframe flash bracket. In general it's about 6-7 pounds.
Default Canon strap so useless for heavy camera with such heavy lenses and just dangerous for neck!
So this Black Rapid strap very comfortable especialy when i have to spend few hours with my camera. There is also some pockets for memory cards, mobile etc.
Fully adjustable, strong construction.

Very comfortable to wear especially using a hefty DSLR like the Nikon D2x. The compartments on the straps is very handy when traveling. Well built quality, the only con about this product is the price of [$], I think this at the rpice of $49 would be perfect. Overall I recommend this product.

I am new to photography but I knew I would need a comfortable way to carry my camera. After reading lots of reviews I decided on the RS-5 Ballistic Camera Strap. It is most comfortable. I really like that it will hold my iPhone, license, money and another memory card. I think with this I can avoid carrying my purse or another camera bag. It holds the camera VERY securely and it will be perfect for touring and photo walks.
For the negatives, it is a little combersome to leave on the camera if you are going to be picking up the camera taking a few shots and putting it down again.
I would highly recommed this to use while touring.

Great safety device for good camera, but perfect for walking, moving, and long sessions; also perfect for carrying more than one camera
Sports, nature walks, etc.
Only problem I've had is very minor -- magnet closure on pocket is pretty powerful and grabs onto anything nearby.

Comments about BlackRapid RS-5 Ballistic Camera Strap (Black):
I absolutely love my new RS-5 strap. Took me about 5 minutes to figure it out and get it on. I've now had it a couple weeks and can't imagine how i possibly got along without it all these years. The comfort is amazing, the storage room is perfect! i'm able to store my phone, 2 extra camera batteries, 5 extra flash batteries, 8 compact flash memory cards and the weight isn't even noticed. I went for a 2 mile brisk walk testing it vs my normal nikon d700 strap that i'm used to walking around in for at least that distance. The difference in back/neck strain was nothing short of a miracle. Typically that specific walk/shooting time is about 2 hours while i shoot the flora/fauna in the area and although lots of fun it just kills my back with my 70-200mm vr lens, d700 and vertical grip weighing me down. With the RS5 i was out there taking my time and over 3 hours had passed before i knew it and my back hardly hurt at all. Vs the barely make it home pain i would normally feel with my standard strap.

This strap doesn't scream expensive camera anywhere, its perfect for anyone looking for a nice way to keep there quality under total control with branding, I have used the stock straps for years and have bin looking around for the best strap on the market and i came across the black rapid strap. So I gave it a shot, this thing holds everything you will ever need for a success full evening out shooting anywhere anytime. This does hold my iphone 4s just fine, or blackberry, 2 spare batteries, a remote release, some business cards, 6+ more CF cards with cleaning cloth. However with all this loaded up the compartments will lean to the sides with the added weight, black rapid please install a Velcro fastener to hold the load from tilting on the sides, this was the only problem I had with this, so I made my own, this fixed the problem in that area and made the strap more comfortable to wear loaded up since there's no play in the heaviness and stays put in there place. I have this strap for about close to 1 year.
This is one of the best devices for your camera ever made.

I thought it would take a while to get used to this new strap but it only took a very short time. The first event I used it for lasted over 5 hours and never took it off. I also purchaced the BRAD (Black Rapid Arm Defense) which helps keep the strap from sliding around. This strap allows for more flexibility when you are not shooting and frees up your hands while still fully supporting your camera. The only down side is the pouches are very small and would have a lot more flexibility if they were slightly bigger. Overall this is a great product and I would definatly recommend this.

Attached this to Canon 30D with 24-105mm L lens and doesn't feel the weigh at all. Very fast to use as it had been reviewed. The pad on shoulder could be thicker for greater comfort (probably with close-cell foam like Billingham strap)

For me the best cam strap I've come across. I've tried countless others and always come back to the Black Rapid straps. It's more comfortable than a standard strap and I like the way it rides either at your side or behind you when walking through tight situations. I also have the RS-7 which is narrower and lighter. I use it with my D200 and this one with my D700.
I've had no issues with the camera connector which screws into the bottom of the camera in the tripod hole.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I think it's a little expensive. It's well made though and didn't mind spending the money as it does the job no other strap can do for me.

This strap is a MUST! I don't know how I used the stock Canon EOS strap for so long. This strap is comfortable for long periods, readjusts to the correct position when you let go of your camera, and holds more than enough items to make a bag unnecessary for shoots. I'll never own another strap.
