I use this primarily for close ups of animals, often through glass. I do not need a lot of power so the 20 guide number is fine for me. I also use it with an off camera cord so the lack of a swivel head is also ok for me.
This is one of only 2 flash units that will currently work with the Fuji hs20 (the ef42 is the other one)
I love the compact size of this unit. The shoe folds into the flash to take up even less room in the camera bag. Always turn the flash on after making all connections and turning on the camera or the ttl will not work.
When you turn off the camera the flash shuts off automatically and you will need to turn it back on next time you use it.
The price is rather high and the unit can only be used for the Fuji cameras it is made for. It works with a universal off camera cord but surprisingly also worked with a canon cord.
I do not like the fact that l have to use a special propriatary flash just for the hs20 camera. There are only two units that will work with this camera, if you want a simple, reliable, compact overpriced flash go with this one.
If you need a more versatile powerfull flash you will need to go with the ef42 instead.

I wanted a compact but more powerful flash than the built in flash on my Fuji X10. This fits my needs perfectly, easy to carry and it doesn't affect the balance of the camera. It's powerful enough to bounce light off the ceiling and the wall. I find the best results are when I tilt the flash at 45 degrees from the horizontal. I've had good results with both the TTL and manual flash. I do find the straight on flash with TTL when I'm near the subject to be disappointing as it does not provide enough light to illuminate the subject, turning it to manual and adjusting the exposure control is an easy work around. I'd certainly recommend it with the caveat that it is a compact flash, keep the suject close, don't expect miracles and I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.

The Fujifilm EF 20 has got to be the most compact an essential piece of dedicated gear for my Fujiflm HS20 EXR. I don't leave home without it. Great for when you need fill flash or an evening out on the town. Slips into a jacket pocket with out the bulk. Great for any situation. I can also recommend the Sto-Fen OM-RQ Omni Bounce Flash Diffuser B&H #STOMRQ which I also found to be of excellent value at only $16.95. With both of these, I'm now experiencing a more professional flash photo then when I was using the pop-up on board flash. I highly recommend both the Fujifilm EF-20 flash and the Sto-Fen OM-RQ Omni diffuser.

The flash operates as I expected for the size. I would like to have more power in a small flash.

Great compact size and very good light output considering size. Excellent for bouncing off walls/ceilings. Minor inconvenience of needing to turn off camera and flash prior to connecting.

Great for indoor pictures when lighting is not sufficient. Reaches farther than the build in flash. In combination with my Hs20EXR the EF-20 takes the guessing out of flash photagraphy. Great deal for a great price.

I purchased this to use with a Fuji X100. It's tiny compared to other flashes, and there is not a great deal of control you have over the light. It will work nicely to add some light to a 1 or 2 person portrait or to fill a dark room with some fill light. Like most other flashes, you can use this in the on-board hot shoe or as an external flash with an off-camera flash cord.
While this is an overpriced item, it works well. Also nice that if folds into a space about the size of a pack of cigarettes so it won't take up much room in a camera bag.
