The X-Rite ColorMunki Display is a calibration and profiling system that accurately portrays on your display / projector the color in your original picture or digital file. ColorMunki makes it quick and easy for you to calibrate and profile your displays. It features an advanced and ergonomic multi-functional measurement device, as well as easy-to-use software with simple one-click presets or wizard-driven options for more control.
The ColorMunki Display incorporates advanced filter and optical systems, fast measurement speed and unrivaled color accuracy on all modern display technologies, including LED and Wide Gamut LCDs. It's also spectrally calibrated, which makes it field-upgradeable to support future display technologies. ColorMunki's ergonomic design incorporates 3 functions - ambient light measurement, monitor profiling, and projector profiling - into 1 sleek, compact and fully integrated device with no parts for you to misplace. A custom-designed RGB filter set provides accurate color measurements, while the optical design allows for high rates of repetition on the same display and across different display types for more consistent color matching. There's even a rotating diffuser arm that can be used as a stand for table top projector profiling, ambient light measurement, or as a cover for instrument optics. The conveniently integrated tripod mount is great for projector profiling in larger venues.
The software features both 'Easy' and 'Advanced' options, so you can choose the one that's right for you. The wizard-driven interface guides you through the profiling process in small, easy-to-follow steps. No knowledge of color science is required - "Easy" mode is as simple as pushing a button, while "Advanced" mode provides additional pre-defined options for those users who want more color control. Before and after images show instant results and the handy profile reminder notifies you when it is time to re-profile your display. The on-screen help guides and videos are easy to understand and follow, so there are no extra manuals needed.
The Ambient Light Measurement tool automatically determines the optimum display luminance for comparing prints to your display, based on a measurement of the lighting conditions where the prints will be viewed. Ambient Light Smart Control lets you choose whether you want ColorMunki to automatically adjust your profile or simply notify you as ambient light conditions change. Flare Correct measures and compensates for reduced contrast ratios caused by flare light (glare) falling on the surface of your display. By accurately measuring your effective display contrast ratio, ColorMunki gives you a more precise display profile.
Intelligent Iterative Profiling is an adaptive technology that measures and analyzes the color capabilities of each unique display, in order to provide maximum accuracy every time you profile. The Automatic Display Control (ADC) feature adjusts your display's hardware to speed up its operation, eliminating manual adjustments--so there's less work for you.

I use this display calibration device to make sure my monitor is showing me accurate colors before I start doing color grading in adobe premiere cs5.5 and after effect cs5.5 via the color finesse plug-in. It was quick to setup and calibrate. It seems my monitor (LG Flatron W3000H) needed a lot more red and contrast, and I had to lower the brightness of a third.
I like :
-Straightforward installation/calibration
-checks for ambient lighting every X minutes
So far I really like this tool.
I took a quick picture of the Colormunki with my cellphone to show where I'm using it. It is working on my editing/color correction PC. It will flash a few times every X minutes to check ambient lighting and renew the monitor profile.

I have and was using a Huey Pro from Pantone (X-Rite) and so can make some comparisons. The Colormunki goes through considerably more colors as it profiles than does the Huey and it asks about white point, which the Huey does not. (The Huey Pro is a lot less expensive.)I have two monitors, one an LED (Apple Cinema) and the other an LCD (Samsung). I run both Snow Leopard and XP on a Mac Pro. I made four profiles. While I think I might be getting a little better match with the Colormunki, it shares some flaws with the Huey Pro. More on those below.First, one might ask which is the best choice concerning white point? I don't really know and X-Rite doesn't offer any help. Anyway, I selected "native" for each monitor. And, oddly, the Colormunki asked that I manually adjust the brightness for the Samsung but not for the Cinema. I'm not kidding. I can't imagine why that happened. The Colormunki is intended--evidently--for LCDs, which are most common, but there is an option, after profiling, to set to LED, which X-Rite claims might improve performance slightly. I can't tell. The thing is easy to use, the idea a good one: using a counterweight that allows for laying flat against the screen the device while it makes its measurements. The Huey Pro employs small suction cups that don't always work very well, though at least it doesn't leave any marks that can't be wiped away. But the Colormunki design is definitely better. I already got a relatively decent match using the Huey Pro, though I think both versions (the first faulty and the second supposedly fixed) issued by Pantone caused slight color casts: greenish before "repair," reddish after "repair."The Colormunki does NOT seem to be causing any color cast and so that's an obvious improvement. I don't have a D-50 light box (who does?), but match between screen and print looks pretty close, maybe as close as can be expected for the price. There are a lot more expensive calibrators out there. The most annoying thing, and this was true of the Huey Pro as well, is that the ambient light monitoring doesn't load properly on computer start-up. Why X-Rite can't seem to fix this problem is beyond me. How hard could it be to do so?On the Snow Leopard side, X-Rite has apparently given up trying to figure how to get it to start up and informs one that one will need to start the app before the monitoring will begin. This is pretty awkward. One has to start the app and then close it and then the icon appears in the tray at the top of the Mac screen, and monitoring begins. I notice that there is far less, if any, change in screen appearance when using the Colormunki in place of the Huey Pro. That is, when I changed the light in the room before with the Huey and then made the Huey do an update I noticed a fairly dramatic change in screen appearance. When I do the same with the Colormunki I notice little or no change. I'm therefore skeptical as to whether or not the Colormunki actually monitors change in ambiance. Now, the Colormunki DOES load on start up in XP but I'm getting an error message. X-Rite is aware of this and recommends downloading a little start-up program that allows one to shuffle what starts up from first to last. The XRGamma, I believe, is supposed to load last.Okay, that seemed to work except that I had some other problem with the little program and so got rid of it. Now I just close the error message.I just think this sort of nonsense is unworthy of X-Rite and that they ought come up with a real fix--for both Mac OS and Windows. One other thing and maybe others have had this problem with XP: For some reason XP forces display profiles, no matter what one has set as default display profile. This was true with the Huey and its true again with the Colormunki. With either device, my XP forces the Samsung LCD profile on the Apple Cinema, which is in fact my primary display. Doesn't matter, XP requires that the secondary monitor profile be the default and XP doesn't seem to recognize that it's possible to have two displays each with a different profile. The only solution I've found is to delete the profile for the secondary display such that XP has no choice but to load the primary profile. (This happens no matter what method is used to arrange displays in Display Properties, and resorting to my video card makes no difference either.) Actually, I seem to recall now that Microsoft offers a fix for this, but obtaining it involves other issues.

Comments about X-Rite ColorMunki Display:
Having started with a Pantone Huey, then moved on to an iOne, I had to get something to calibrate a projector with for sales presentations to clients with ProSelect. A budget projector from Epson (ex5200), ProSelect, and the ColorMunki Display is a great combination. When I bought the projector I set it up and fiddled with it to get things close, and thought "well this is pretty good", after reviewing some of our more dramatic images with high contrast I wasn't to sure about using this to sell without some color help. The "Munki" came to the rescue! Although it doesn't have the gamut of my LCD monitor it renders images wonderfully, I can't wait to see the sales soar!

Comments about X-Rite ColorMunki Display:
I'm using this with a Dell U2410 (pretty common)monitor. If I allow full automatic calibration using DDC with monitor it maxes out both brightness and contrast so something is wrong in how the software interacts with hardware. The product is easy to use, you can create a profile if you disable the DDC but in the end the software needs to be fleshed out. Plus, it would be handy if after you create the profile you could check your calibration - all you get are before and after pictures.

Installed on a laptop with Windows 7 Home Ultimate. The unit itself is excellent. The included software is very straight forward and easily walks you through the process to create a profile. The only issue I had was with Windows 7 wanting to reset the profile, which is a know issue. I'm very happy to be looking at correct colors again.

I am a pro photographer and needed a new monitor calibrator when I switched to Lion. The ColorMunki Display is perfect for me. I outsorce most of my printing, 100% of my albums and do some printing on my Epson 3800.
The Display is perfect because I do not make profiles for all the papers I use. Its's fast, accurate and very easy to use.

I use this unit to calibrate my monitor under Linux. It is fully support by recent versions of ArgyllCMS, which gets the job done nicely.I briefly ran the windows software that came with the unit. I found it to be rather basic in terms of its functionality. In advanced mode it allow you to set the displays brightness, but that was it. While it gets the job done, if you want more than the most basic control over the calibration process then you will not be happy with the included software. For me the unit works well, and for [$] I can't complain.

I was relieved that the ColorMunki Display calibrator was easy to figure out, since I am not a techie. It did a good job of calibrating my two monitors, which very much needed some help.
If you leave it hooked up to the USB port, it detects ambient light in the room and adjusts the monitors accordingly during the day.

I'm a photographer who cares a great deal about the quality of my prints! I'd been told by a friend that the ColorMunkie was fantastic because it's super easy to use and works wonderfully, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I'm SO impressed! It made a huge difference and worked without any issues from the very beginning. My favorite part of it is that I can keep it plugged in and as the lighting changes around my computer through out the course of the day, it will alter my screens calibration so that I can still see an accurate picture on my screen. I don't worry anymore about what my prints are going to look like. I'd recommend this to everyone!

I like the way X-Rite has set up this system, but it just didn't work for my new monitor. I tried it a number of times and even solicited tech support from X-Rite, but each time it set my monitor at a ridiculously dim setting. I was pretty excited to get my new monitor calibrated, but something just wasn't right. My monitor is an AOC i2353 e-ips panel, if that helps.

I'm an advanced amatuer photographer, working on a MacBook pro attached to a dell 2209wa monitor. This gave me great color results on the external monitor- brightness needed some tweaking- but the color is very accurate to my prints from adoramapix and mpix. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the MacBook monitor. It consistently arrives at the same calibration which is clearly warm - almost yellowish. I will continue to use it because of the great results on the external monitor, but sort of a bummer that it can't get closer on the laptop.
