The X-Rite i1Display Pro is a calibration and profiling system for a display / projector. It helps to make sure that the colors on your display match those in your original picture or file. The i1Display features i1Profiler software for calibrating and profiling all modern display and projector technologies, including LED and Wide Gamut LCDs. It's also spectrally calibrated, which makes it field-upgradeable to support future display technologies!
The system's ergonomic design incorporates 3 functions - ambient light measurement, monitor profiling, and projector profiling - into a very sleek, compact and fully integrated device with no parts to misplace. Experience speeds up to 5X faster than previous devices! A custom-designed RGB filter set provides accurate color measurements, while the optical design allows for high repetition on the same display and across different display types for more consistent color matching. There's even a rotating diffuser arm that can be used as a stand for table top projector profiling, ambient light measurement, or as a cover for instrument optics. The conveniently integrated tripod mount is great for projector profiling in larger venues.
The i1Display offers both 'Basic' and 'Advanced' modes, giving you the power to choose which one is best for you. Basic mode offers a wizard-driven interface with predefined options for the quickest path to professional on-screen color. Advanced mode offers user-defined options for more sophisticated profiling workflows, to deliver the highest quality color results on monitors and projectors, as well as display testing and quality assurance tools.
Enjoy virtually infinite control of white point, luminance, contrast ratio, gamma and more, as well as multiple monitor and workgroup profiling. Intelligent Iterative Profiling is an adaptive technology that measures and analyzes the color capabilities of each unique display for increased profile accuracy. Create unique patch sets for optimal results in your profiling. Ambient Light Measurement automatically determines the optimum display luminance for comparing prints to your display, based on a measurement of the lighting conditions where the prints will be viewed. Ambient Light Smart Control performs measurement, compensation and ongoing monitoring of ambient lighting conditions, letting you decide whether you want the i1Display system to automatically adjust your profile or simply notify you as ambient light conditions change.
Flare Correct measures and adjusts your display profile for reduced contrast ratios caused by flare light (or glare) falling on the surface of your display. By accurately measuring your effective display contrast ratio, you'll have a more precise display profile. 3 patch set sizes - small, medium, or large - allow you to increase your profile accuracy by measuring a higher number of patches. Choose your own combination of patch set size, extracted colors from specific images and/or PANTONE spot colors selected from the included PANTONE Color Manager software. The Automatic Display Control (ADC) technology automates the adjustment of your display's hardware, including brightness/backlight, contrast, and color temperature, in order to speed up the profiling process and eliminate manual adjustments--so there's less work for you!
You can re-use profile settings on multiple displays connected to the same computer or to multiple computers within a workgroup. Before and after images show instant results, and the handy profile reminder lets you know when it's time to re-profile your display. Easy-to-follow on-screen help guides and videos mean there are no extra manuals needed.
When it comes to display quality assurance, this system can perform visual validation using pre-defined and user defined images. It can also do measurement-based validation in 3 different ways: Using industry standard targets and reference data sets (like SWOP, Gracol and Fogra), using PANTONE color and libraries, or using colors extracted from user defined images. You can also take advantage of user defined PASS/FAIL deltaE tolerance for average and maximum values. Additionally, the i1Display Pro features color accuracy trending over time. For a display uniformity test, measure white point and luminance uniformity over 9 locations on your display, and take control with user defined PASS/FAIL tolerance.

When I bought a DSLR and really got into shooting photography, I made two fatal errors when I would send my images to print. The first and most obvious, was that I was using "one hour" photo "labs" via retail stores and the second was doing post on an uncalibrated monitor. My prints were dark and the colors didn't "pop" like they did on my display. So I started using a couple of different real photo labs. While the prints were better, the colors still didn't match and although brighter, they still weren't as loud as they were on my display. Enter the i1Display Pro. iMacs have radioactively bright displays out of the box and the colors were all over the place. While luminance is still a small issue, considering you're trying to compare a backlit display to a front lit photograph, my prints are 99% spot on now. You spent a small fortune on lenses, a sweet computer, and outrageously expensive software to to put your photos above your competition. If you're using an uncalibrated monitor, you're wasting your time and money. Spend the few hundred bucks and get it right the first time, every time.

Purchased to profile laptops and projector.
Cons
- Software installed slowly, then required huge download for complete reinstall of the profiler.
- Software failed to install on second Win7 PC, required forced shutdown and reinstall.
- Second Win7 PC seemed to complete OK, but later began to crash, so software uninstalled - no more problems, but no profiler available now.
- Tried to profile overhead projector in auditorium with lights out (normal mode for our usage). Profiler would not accept readings.
- After call to company support, they advised that some lights might need to be turned on. The profiler began to work!!
- But now our projector profile is for incorrect lighting setup.
I'm still making up my mind, whether to recommend to others.

Comments about X-Rite i1Display Pro:
The i1Profiler which boundled in i1Display Pro Package is ease to use. Just put i1Display Pro onto your monitor screen, choose the color temperature and lumen, click, wait for 10 minutes...done! How simply it is! The measuring speed and accuracy is so so wonderful on my CCFL and LED backlight monitors. From now on, when other guys argued about the difference of displaying color, I will tell then: "Just buy a i1Display Pro, and you will get real color!"

Comments about X-Rite i1Display Pro:
The device itself is smartly designed and the process of setting on the monitor take measurements is improved from the i1display2 in my opinion (plus it takes ambient readings which the i1display2 does not). However... the software i1profiler is HORRIBLE!!! it seems at first like it is smartly designed but you can easily skip steps or go back and not really know what stage of the process you are at or what the next step is. You are also required to select certain settings such as monitor type (CCFL, vs CCFL Wide Gamut, for example) or ADC or not ADC but it is not easy in all cases to know which is the correct setting and you get drastically different results depending on how you set these. I have an Eizo CE240W which Eizo told me is a CCFL Wide Gamut monitor but the profile generated using this setting is so far out of "calibration" it is visibilty off to the naked eye... I actually still wonder if my i1display pro might defective. However the profile it makes if i select standard CCFL seems reasonably accurate as far as i can tell. I would give it 1 star if I knew of another device of comparable quality but better software... but i have not tried the competing devices (yet).

Comments about X-Rite i1Display Pro:
I make prints from a 27" iMac using a Canon pro 9000 printer. Despite using another company's profiler, I have had a lot of problems getting my prints to match the onscreen display.
The i1 display pro fixed that. I can now get accurate prints straight from the screen without messing around with test prints. Hooray! it is truly worth the price.
I would give it 5 stars except for two flaws. The first is that installation involved an upgrade that required an incredibly long download and now there is another upgrade available, perhaps with the same slow download. The second is that there is NO written documentation that I can find, either with the product or from the companies website. Nonetheless, the program works very well out of the box.
Finally, B+H lists a male/female USB cord as an accessory. I bought that thinking that it might be necessary to use the scanner. It is not.

I was in need of replacing my older Optix XR calibrator after upgrading to the Lion OS. The new i1 Pro is much faster and seemingly more acurate with color. An essential tool for any professional.

Comments about X-Rite i1Display Pro:
I bought this, because of a suggestion from a forum, where I had submitted photos for comments about them being too bright, and other were saying they were fine and that I need to calibrate.
Well, I setup and ran the i1 and sure enough, my display settings were off. Now the pictures look fine without post processing.
The i1 was very easy to setup and use. Worked great on my iMac and calibration was super easy and very fast. I had no problem hanging the sensor on the screen and getting a good measurement. The ambient lighting feature worked as expected.
I haven't tried it yet on my PC or to do manual calibration of a projector, so I can't comment on that, but it worked well on the Mac.

Comments about X-Rite i1Display Pro:
I bought this device in January, 2012 after calling X-Rite to get their advice about the best product to use with my new Thunderbolt Display. After receiving this device, I updated the accompanying software to the current version via the Internet. I am running it on a MacBook Pro OS 10.7.3 with a Thunderbolt display. Unfortunately, after each calibration run, the software pops up an alert within a day or two that the "Thunderbolt Display needs to be re-profiled." I called with their tech support twice and ultimately sent the profile file to them as an attachment for troubleshooting. They did not respond. I called again in mid-February, only to be told that it's a glitch and they're working on it and that I should disregard the error message. I was annoyed because 1) No one acknowledged receipt of my email after a week and a half and I had to waste time calling them again. And 2) The tech support guy as much as told me that no one in their engineering department had tested this device with a Thunderbolt Display yet, so they would need more time to devise a resolution to the messages I've been getting. Duh.

Comments about X-Rite i1Display Pro:
After extensive research I picked the pro's choice. B&H delivered in just a few days. Had it up and running in minutes and it worked flawlessly. Calibrated my Dell U2412M just the way I needed it for matching display vs final print out from my Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II. Recommend you calibrate with the accompanying iProfile software using both manual and auto modes several times...takes only minutes for each run. Pick the best (least Delta E) and use it as your default. X-Rite's i1Display Pro is a terrific monitor calibration instrument. You'll love it if you're serious about matching your display to print output!

I had issues with an older unit that I was trying to profile a new iMac. The new i1Display Pro worked flawlessly the first time. My monitor now looks even better than when I got it. The software is very feature rich and you can save settings to use in future profile measurements. Overall, I am very happy.

Comments about X-Rite i1Display Pro:
I use it for monitor calibration, and it seems to do a good job (I've only had it for a couple of weeks, at this writing). I confess to having an attitude problem, however. I bought the expensive i1 predecessor about three years ago, and when Mac OS 10.7 was released, X-Rite announced they were not offering an update, just an expensive upgrade. Had I found a decent alternative to another X-Rite product, I would have bought it instead.

I have four computers. I have used the i1 Pro for about a month now, and so far it is more accurate than the old i1Display II. It also has been easier to go through the process(advanced) than the old one. Finally, it is considerably faster. Glad I spent the money!

I use this to calibrate an NEC wide gamut display and a Macbook Pro.
The video tutorials are straightforward and informative and the calibration process is pretty simple. My only complaint is not with the product, but that this was a forced purchase as the software for the older i1 Display was not compatible with Lion.
