The External USB 2.0 Super-MultiDrive LightScribe DVD Writer from Other World Computing is part of OWC's Value Line series. It combines the power of a LG Super-Multi GH24LS70 DVD writer with a sturdy USB 2.0 enclosure. It also comes with OWC LightScribe software bundle for Mac. LightScribe technology allows you to etch labels onto special-coated LightScribe discs. The included NTI DragonBurn software makes it easy to burn audio, data or mixed-mode CDs and DVDs on the Mac. Prosoft Engineering Data Backup 3 software is also included and it helps back up your files that are located on your Mac onto CD and DVD discs. NovaStor NovaBACKUP is also part of the software bundle and it works with Windows computers to back up your data with ease.

It even checks the quality of each inserted disc and intuitively alters the laser power on the inner and outer sides accordingly. This DVD writer even tilts the objective lens when the disc is not laying flat

i needed a dvd writer compatible with apple and able to play mini discs. this is one of the few able to do that and has lightscribe too. i tried a memorex they said would work but it wasn't compatible with apple.
