The EverFocus EDVR4D1/160 is a commercial grade 4-channel DVR presented as an all-in-one solution for managing multiple cameras for recording, viewing and playback from a single robust and feature-rich device. Video is captured in the MPEG-4 format at speeds up to 120 IPS (NTSC) for the combined channels and is stored on the internal 160GB hard drive or burned to a CD/DVD disc for archival or transfer purposes. Users can also access the DVR from a remote Internet location to view and record images as well as to operate the PTZ functions of a single camera. Other important features include a motion detection function, audio/I/O ports, loop-through video inputs and alarm I/O ports. A DVR is where the whole security system comes together, making it an indispensable tool for banks, retail stores, casinos, cruise ships and other mission critical security applications.

• Pentaplex Operation: Pentaplex operation means that video from all cameras can be viewed live, recorded, played back, archived and accessed from a remote location simultaneously. It also means that the DVR will suffer no degradation in performance and will continue to deliver its maximum frame rates while all of these operations are taking place.

• MPEG-4 Recording: MPEG-4 Technology, with its inherent ability to maintain high quality while keeping file sizes to a minimum, is particularly well suited for use as a compression method in DVRs. When compared to older compression schemes like MJPEG or MPEG-2000, MPEG-4 can store up to 10 times as much material per gigabyte of disk space, at higher resolutions and with far less noise or distortion. In layman's terms, this means that video from more cameras can be recorded at higher frame rates and for longer periods of time before any footage needs to be overwritten or deleted.

• Remote Network Viewing and PTZ Control: With a built-in Ethernet connection, anything that could be done from the front of the unit could now be achieved easier and more efficiently using a PC along with the convenience and familiarity of a computer's keyboard and mouse. Harnessing the power of the Internet, remote network users can view cameras live, playback recorded material, change DVR settings or schedule recording to a PC's hard drive. Furthermore, remote clients can also operate the PTZ functions of a single dome camera via an RS-485 control protocol, something which cannot be done from the front of the DVR. There's also no need to install any specialized software, as this DVR supports network access using a standard Windows web browser. To prevent system abuse, this DVR employs an elaborate password system, determining the level of access for general users and administrators.

• Built-In DVD Burner: A built-in DVD burner is one of the most important features to have in a DVR. It allows material to be stored at a secure location for indefinite periods of time for possible future use. It also provides a quick method for handing over crucial event footage to the authorities without having them wait around for a VHS copy to be made or in some instances having to surrender the entire unit for evidence purposes.

• Motion Detection: A motion detection function, adjustable for area and sensitivity, can be assigned for each camera input. Motion detection not only alerts an operator to suspicious activities, but when used to trigger recordings, saves on storage space and also makes it quick and easy to locate event material.

• Watchdog Function: A system diagnostic function ensures that when it comes to reviewing footage you are not caught by surprise and presented with a blank video screen due to the DVR malfunctioning. The moment something happens out of the ordinary like an HDD failing or some other crippling problem, the DVR will automatically notify you via Email or by activating an alarm alert. This will hopefully leave you time to find an alternative recording method or some other way to remedy the situation.

• Watermark Function: A watermark can be applied to video frames or sequences of images to prevent them from being altered, thereby preserving their integrity as evidence material. This is an important feature in today's day and age with its abundance of low cost, easily obtainable and easy to use photo and video digital enhancing software.

• VGA Output: For maximum versatility, this unit features both BNC and PC (VGA) outputs, offering its use in today's security environments increasingly containing both analog and digital security equipment. A VGA output also allows video to be displayed on an ultra high resolution computer monitor or to a large group of people on a VGA projector.

• 4 Channels of Audio: Audio from up to four cameras can be recorded in sync with the video. When used with the appropriate microphones and amplifiers at both ends of the system, it is possible for an operator or remote network user to hear and speak with a person at the camera location. This is a useful feature in factories, retail stores and other voice communication applications.

• Easy to Operate: EverFocus designed this DVR so that even a new operator will master its controls in as little time as possible. To this end they incorporated it with a user-friendly, multi-language GUI along with front panel controls arranged in an intuitive and uncluttered manner. Search and playback is quick and easy with VCR-like buttons along with a jog/shuttle wheel providing effortless FF, rewind, playback as well as frame-by-frame back and forth operation.
