The VIERA Active Shutter 3D Eyewear (Large) from Panasonic are glasses that work by responding to a sync signal transmitted by compatible Panasonic HDTVs or any other 3D compatible screen. Highly precise control completely closes the shutters for both eyes at the instant that the images change for the left and right eyes. Many times per second, faster than the eye can perceive, the HDTV shows the image meant for the left eye and then the image for the right eye. The glasses alternately block first one eye then the other. It all happens so fast that your brain sees a 3D image.
The 3D Eyewear can also be comfortably worn right over ordinary prescription glasses. The glasses are M-3D1 standard compliant for use with any 3D compatible screen.

Comments about Panasonic VIERA Active Shutter 3D Eyewear (Large):
I have a pair of Panasonic's second generation 3D glasses in a medium size (TY-EW3D2MU) that came with my Panasonic TV, and these third generation glasses are significantly better in every respect.
They are much lighter, and they fit my face and my fiance's face MUCH better. They are also slightly less dark, and they have a "2D" button that allows you to watch a 3D movie in 2D (which is nice to have if you start feeling eye-strain).
I think the better fit is due in part to the fact that these are a "large", although neither of us has a particularly large face, so I'm surprised we had to purchase a large size for a better fit. But it's not just the larger size... I think the way Panasonic handled the nose piece this time around is better. My second gen mediums sat super high on my face and away from my eyes, leaving a large gap between the lens and my eye. The nosepiece on these 3rd gen larges is wider and the glasses fit more like normal glasses would.
I would say, if you have a medium or large-sized face, go with the large size glasses.
My only gripe is that the 2nd gen glasses came with a nice case. These just come in a flimsy cardboard box.

Wish they were just a BIT bigger, but otherwise I love them.

Great alternative to the heavier older models, lighter may need to keep away from teens and younger kids.
